10 things we learnt from the NWPL Super 4

The draw for the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super 4 was held at the Protea Hotel on August 16 amidst expectations on the part of football lovers in the country.

Format of the competition was drawn out with Rivers Angels, Delta Queens, Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons all expected to play in a round robin format before the top two plays in the final.

The opening match of the 2016/17 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super 4 will see 2013 league winners Nasarawa Amazons lock horns with Bayelsa Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Monday.

Kick off is at 2pm.

Amazons are looking to cement their status as one of the pre-eminent sides in the women’s game by winning their second league crown. They are strongly fancied to return to the top of the podium in 2017.

Delta Queens and Rivers Angels will take to the battle field in the South-South derby which promises to be electrifying on Monday.

The Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super 4 matchday 1 encounter will take place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State.

The ladies from Kwale had it tough in the first stanza of the regular season but made a terrific surge in the second round and qualified for the competition by topping Group B with 23 points from 14 games.

The rivals are expected to draw a good crowd at the Nembe City Stadium for an encounter that has caught the imagination in the South-South.

Confluence Queens hold mid season award ceremony

Confluence Queens held the club’s mid season awards ceremony at the Confluence Stadium, with the Golden Gloves; Best Defender; Best Midfielder and Best Striker awards all up for grabs on Thursday morning.

The Golden Gloves award winner with six games played and four clean sheets kept, went to Mercy Vincent.
