Janine Van Wyk 100 Caps South Africa women's national football team

It has been a busy few weeks as South Africa (Banyana Banyana) continue preparations for the 2014 African Women’s Championship, and I have reached a huge milestone along the journey.

On 10 August 2014, I earned my 100th cap for South Africa, it was an extremely proud moment as I took to the field in an international friendly match against Namibia. During the same fixture my teammate Portia Modise earned her 110th cap. South Africa defeated Namibia 2-0 in the friendly match, another positive step on our road to the African Women’s Championships in October. Read the rest of this entry →

9th African Women's Championship draw

I’m so excited about the #AWC Draw!!

I have been waiting for this since the day we qualified for this tournament!!

We have qualified for the African Women’s Championship!

I am back in camp with the team!!! After beating the Comoros 13-0 in our first leg qualifying match, Comoros did not want to play the 2nd leg, so we have now qualified for the African Women’s Championship held in Namibia later this year! One step closer to the World Cup in Canada 2015!!

We know its going to be up hill from now with preparations getting tougher and fighting for a spot in the team! Read the rest of this entry →

Janine Van Wyk South Africa

What a challenging trip it has been in the Island of Comoros! We arrived here 3 days before the match! This was probably the hottest country I have been to so far in my life!

It was so hard to adapt to the heat and humidity, as well as the hour and a half drive to the training field from our hotel, but our fantastic coach Vera Pauw encouraged us to stay focused on what we are here for and that was obviously to get the 3 points! Read the rest of this entry →

Janine Van Wyk

Hallo to the Women’s Soccer United family and followers. It has been a while since I last shared my stories, views, emotions and experience with you.

Today I would like to share something that I never thought would happen in Women’s Football in South Africa. The most amazing thing happened this past week. SAFA (South African Football Association), announced the most exciting news I’ve heard in a very long time, and that is that Banyana Banyana (Women’s Senior National Team) have a new coach.
