Match report: Northern Ireland miss out on World Cup qualifier

Northern Ireland missed out on a World Cup qualifier with England after falling to a 6-0 defeat to Germany on Monday evening if Northern Ireland had bettered Scotland’s goal difference they would have set up the historical tie.

Germany took the lead inside five minutes as Lauren Perry made a fine save to deny Kristin Kogel the ball rebounding out to Klara Buhl and she made no mistake in tucking the ball into the net.

Match report: England crash out of U19 Euros

England’s Uefa Euro under 19 championship tournament ended after a 1-0 defeat to France at the Ballymena showgrounds thanks to a late Lina Boussaha goal.

France had the first chance of note on 13 minutes as Sarah Galera slammed her free-kick of the wall after Chloe Peplow had brought down Sana Daoudi.

Taylor books England’s place in last four

Jodie Taylor proved to be England’s hero as they defeated France for the first time in 43 years in a tight contest on Sunday evening.

It was the Lionesses who started the better of the two and it was Taylor who created the first chance as she skipped around the French defence on five minutes but fired wide of the target.

Austria reached the semi finals of their first ever major tournament after a 5-3 penalty shootout success against Spain on Sunday evening.

Spain were lucky to quality for the quarter final after they lost 1-0 to Scotland on Wednesday.

Denmark shocked the football world on Sunday morning as they knocked consecutive seven times European champions Germany out of Euro 2017 with a 2-1 win in Rotterdam.

The rearranged game called off originally last night due to a waterlogged pitch got off to a lively start as Steffi Jones Germany side took the lead after only three minutes when Isabel Kerschowski took advantage of a poor goalkeeping mistake by Stina Petersen to fire the ball high into the net. Host nation Netherlands advanced to the semi-finals of the Uefa Euro 2017 championship with a 2-0 win over Sweden on Saturday.

After what proved to be a slow start it was the Dutch who created the first opening as Sherida Spitse lashed a fierce right footed freekick just over the top of Hedvig Lindahl’s crossbar from twenty-five yards out.
