FA has announced its decision on club licensing applications for Tier 1 and 2

Brighton and Hove Albion has earned a Tier 1 licence and joins the nine other Women’s Super League One clubs whose application to top-flight status was accepted.

Among the successful applications who become a full-time, professional clubs in English women’s football in 2018-19 are Yeovil Town who worked hard to retain top-flight status.

Ten clubs have been awarded a place in WSL 1 as part of the league’s new restructure, but that number may rise to up to 14. Read the rest of this entry →

Bristol City Women confirm the club has received a conditional offer from the FA regarding the club’s Tier One status

Bristol City Women confirm that the club has received a conditional offer from the FA regarding the club’s Tier One status.

With the backing of Bristol Sport, the club submitted an application outlining its ambition to maintain the progression it has made over the last two years on and off the pitch.

Bristol City Women head coach Willie Kirk commented on the outcome of the application: “We have been training full-time for two years now and the progression of the team’s performances is clear to see. “So far this season, we have shown we can compete with the best teams in the country on the pitch and I only see us going from strength to strength in the future.” Read the rest of this entry →

Match report | Five Star Liverpool progress in Continental Cup

Liverpool progressed to the Quarter finals of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres Cup on Wednesday evening at Widnes after a 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa Ladies.

The Reds started the brighter and could have been ahead inside the first minute as Ashley Hodson crossed for Niamh Charles, but she fired her effort wide from close range.

It was all Liverpool in the early stages and they should have taken the lead on six minutes as Jess Clarke was played in by another low Hodson cross however she volleyed her effort wide when she really should have hit the target. Read the rest of this entry →

Swedish midfielder Julia Spetsmark to join Manchester City in January 2018

Manchester City has continued to strengthen their women’s squad signing Sweden’s Julia Spetsmark.

Spetsmark will join the English champions from KIF Örebro DFF in January 2018. An attacking midfielder, Spetsmark’s time at City will mark her first foray into a national league outside of Sweden, an opportunity she is relishing. A self-described attacking midfielder, Spetsmark is looking forward to making her mark at Manchester City and helping the team as they aim to retain their three domestic titles and challenge for the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy.
