Jill Ellis Names 24 Players for USWNT Friendlies against Russia in Texas

USA Will Play on April 6 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco and April 9 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston

USA National Team head coach Jill Ellis has named a 24-player training camp roster for two matches against Russia, taking place on April 6 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas (7:30 p.m. CT; FS1 with the pre-game show starting at 7 p.m. CT) and April 9 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston (1 p.m. CT on ESPN).

Ellis will choose 18 players for the game roster for each match. These will be the final U.S. WNT matches before the National Women’s Soccer League kicks off its fifth season with four games on April 15.

Ellis named three goalkeepers, six defenders, eight midfielders and seven forwards, although numerous players can play multiple positions. Nineteen of the players selected were on the roster for the 2017 SheBelieves Cup in March. Ellis has recalled midfielder Megan Rapinoe (117 caps/31 goals) and has given a first call-up to new Boston Breakers defender Megan Oyster, who had a quality NWSL season last year for the Washington Spirit. Forward Amy Rodriguez (129/30) and defender Meghan Klingenberg (70/3), who both attended the USA’s training camp before the SheBelieves Cup but did not make the final roster, were also selected, as was Houston Dash forward Kealia Ohai, who earned her first three caps and scored her first WNT goal at the end of 2016. Emily Lima announces Brazil squad for friendly match against Bolivia

Brazil women’s national team head coach Emily Lima has called up 24-players to participate in an international friendly match against Bolivia on 9 April.

The game which will take place at the Arena of Amazonia, Manaus will mark the first international friendly of 2017 for the South American team.

The squad sees four debutants, Letícia, Portilho, Jucinara and Brena who have been selected to the senior squad for their first official FIFA date.

USWNT Will Travel to Norway for Friendly Match on June 11

Match Marks Fourth Friendly Between the Teams in Norway and First Since 2008;

The WNT Will Play Two Matches in Europe with Additional Game to Be Announced

USA Women’s National Team will play in Europe this summer, travelling to face Norway on June 11 at Komplett Arena in Sandefjord, which is located on the southeast coast about 75 miles south of Oslo.

The match, which will kick off at 7:15 p.m. local time (1:15 p.m. ET) will mark the 50th meeting between the historic rivals who combined to win the first five FIFA world championships for women.

The USA won the 1991 Women’s World Cup in China, defeating Norway in the championship game, and won the gold medal at the 1996 Olympics, defeating Norway in the semifinal on a golden goal. Norway won the 1995 FIFA Women’s World Cup, defeating the USA in the semifinal, and the 2000 Olympic gold medal, defeating the USA in the title game on a golden goal. Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team will return home to play Costa Rica in Winnipeg 8 June and Toronto 11 June.

The matches will mark the first meetings between the two nations since Canada defeated Costa Rica in February 2016 at the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament, securing Canada a spot at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

USWNT Will Head to Texas for Two April Friendlies vs. Russia

USWNT will face Russia in friendly matches on April 6 and 9 in Texas.

USA Will Play on April 6 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco and April 9 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston

USA Women’s National Team will take a swing through Texas to play Russia twice in April, opening the two-game set on Thursday, April 6, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas (7:30 p.m. CT; FS1 [pre-game show starting at 7 p.m. CT]). Three days later, the teams will meet on Sunday, April 9, at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston (1 p.m. CT; ESPN).

These will be the final U.S. WNT matches before the National Women’s Soccer League kicks off its historic fifth season.

Russia, which is set to compete in the 2017 UEFA Women’s Euro this summer in the Netherlands, was drawn into a tough Group B with Germany, Italy and Sweden. Russia qualified for the tournament by finishing second behind Germany in Group 5 of the qualifying process. Read the rest of this entry →
