NC Courage Finds Fourth Win In A Row With 1-0 Victory Over Seattle Reign FC in front of 3,011 fans

Another game-winning goal from Jessica McDonald secured the North Carolina Courage’s (4W-0D-0L, 12 pts, 1st place) fourth win in as many games to continue their early season hot streak.

The team downed Seattle Reign FC (2W-0D-1L, 6 pts, 4th place) 1-0 at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park on Wednesday night.

The Courage found themselves in an early dogfight against Seattle for possession in the midfield for the majority of the first half. Although the Courage went into halftime scoreless, there was no shortage of opportunities for the group. Read the rest of this entry →

Manchester City brush away Sunderland

Manchester City claimed a 3-0 victory over Sunderland on a beautiful Wednesday night at the Academy stadium.

Manchester City started the game the brighter of the sides creating the first opportunity inside five minutes as Georgia Stanway drove from deep before firing her effort wide of the target when she should have tested Sunderland keeper Rachel Laws.

However, the Blues did take the lead on 13 minutes as Stanway fired into the net after some neat play from the home side as Kiera Walsh pulled the ball back for her before her shot went into the net via the post. Read the rest of this entry →

USA Next Faces Mexico Again in Houston on April 8 at 12:30 p.m. CT on FOX

USA took early control against Mexico and never relinquished its dominance, rolling past its Concacaf opponent with a 4-1 win in front of 14,360 fans at EverBank Field. Goals by Mallory Pugh and Carli Lloyd bookended an Alex Morgan brace to put the USA up 4-0 before Mexico grabbed a late consolation tally.

It was all USA in the first half with the home team out-shooting Mexico 10-2 and maintaining 76.4 percent of the possession. The USA finished with a 20-9 margin in shots. The USA had an early chance when Megan Rapinoe connected with Morgan Brian in front of the goal but Brian’s shot was saved by Mexico and Houston Dash goalkeeper Bianca Henninger, who is a former U.S. youth international. Mari Paz Vilas broke the deadlock early in the 6th minute before María Díaz equalised for the visiting club just 9 minutes later.

Match report | Five Star Liverpool progress in Continental Cup

Liverpool progressed to the Quarter finals of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres Cup on Wednesday evening at Widnes after a 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa Ladies.

The Reds started the brighter and could have been ahead inside the first minute as Ashley Hodson crossed for Niamh Charles, but she fired her effort wide from close range.

Match Report | Canada draw the USA 1-1 in front of a capacity crowd of 28,017

In a match that proved Canada’s goal to reach #1 in the world is not only possible, but attainable, the Canadian side put sustained pressure on the USA and forced their opponent to play Canada’s game.

Canada opened the match on the attack, sending Janine Beckie, Deanne Rose and Christine Sinclair into the US box on numerous occasions before the 15 minute mark. Canada got into goal scoring position several times before the USA opened scoring in the 30th minute. Casey Short headed a clearance back into danger that was collected by Alex Morgan and her right footed volley deflected off Rebecca Quinn on its way into the bottom corner of the Canadian goal. Players Now Travel to Cary, N.C. for Second Match vs. Korea Republic (2 p.m. ET, Oct. 22; ESPN)

USA Women’s National Team earned a convincing 3-1 win against the Korea Republic on Thursday night at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in the first of a pair of friendlies against the AFC foe.

The USA controlled the tempo from the get-go and out-shot Korea Republic 11-3 in the first half. Julie Ertz and Alex Morgan continued their excellent form as both found the net in the first half, their fourth and fifth goals of 2017, respectively. South Korea created its only shot on goal of the first half deep into stoppage time with debutante Han Chaerin scoring a fantastic strike from 23 yards out to pull her team within one. Manchester City Women cruised into the second round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League after a 3-0 victory at the Academy Stadium winning 6-0 on aggregate over Austrian Champions SKN St Polten.
