UCD Waves lift Continental Tyres WNL Shield after Galway victory

UCD Waves claimed the Continental Tyres Women’s National League Shield after an entertaining final at Eamonn Decay Park against Galway WFC.

Ellie O’Flaherty put the home ahead but goals from Catherine Cronin and Kerri Letmon sealed the come-back 2-1 victory for Noel Kealy’s side.

Match report: USWNT beat New Zealand 3-1 in front of 17,301 fans!

Ertz leads the way with brace as USWNT defeats New Zealand 3-1 in Colorado

USA Women’s National Team defeated New Zealand 3-1 with a first half brace from Julie Ertz and a late goal from Alex Morgan in front of a near capacity crowd of 17,301 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Veteran defender Kelley O’Hara captained the side in her 100th cap for her country.

In a sign of the impact she would have on the game, Ertz had her first chance of the night in the 11th minute when her overhead volley flew just over the crossbar. Match report: Orlando Pride and Seattle Reign FC battled to a hard-fought draw on Thursday night

Orlando Pride (10-6-6, 36 points) and Seattle Reign FC (8-7-7, 31 points) battled to a hard-fought draw on Thursday night, saving the goal scoring for late heroics during second-half stoppage time.

Alex Morgan broke the deadlock in the second minute of extra time, pushing the Pride ahead in their hunt for the playoffs, but the lead didn’t last long as Seattle’s Jessica Fishlock equalized two minutes later for the 1-1 final.

Orlando will now see over two weeks before its next match, as the NWSL heads into a FIFA break following the conclusion of the rest of the Week 20 matches. Orlando will play its final home match of the regular season on Saturday, Sept. 23, against Portland Thorns FC. Read the rest of this entry →

Republic of Ireland WU17s suffered a narrow defeat to the Czech Republic in an International friendly

Subsititute Klara Cvrckova scored the only goal of the game in the second-half to seal the victory for the hosts with the second game between the two sides on Saturday.

Match report: Orlando Pride Defeats Boston 4-2; Wins 5th Straight

Orlando Pride (10-6-5, 35 points) continued to roll on Saturday night, downing the Boston Breakers (3-11-7 16 points) 4-2 in a rain-soaked match at Orlando City Stadium.

The victory pushed the Pride’s current win streak to five consecutive games, with the team unbeaten over its last six matches.

The victory also ensured the Pride remain in playoff position through Week 19, regardless of results in the remaining matches this weekend. Northern Ireland missed out on a World Cup qualifier with England after falling to a 6-0 defeat to Germany on Monday evening if Northern Ireland had bettered Scotland’s goal difference they would have set up the historical tie.

Germany took the lead inside five minutes as Lauren Perry made a fine save to deny Kristin Kogel the ball rebounding out to Klara Buhl and she made no mistake in tucking the ball into the net.

Match report: England crash out of U19 Euros

England’s Uefa Euro under 19 championship tournament ended after a 1-0 defeat to France at the Ballymena showgrounds thanks to a late Lina Boussaha goal.

France had the first chance of note on 13 minutes as Sarah Galera slammed her free-kick of the wall after Chloe Peplow had brought down Sana Daoudi.

Match report: NC Courage became first team to beat Seattle Reign at home this season

The first-place North Carolina Courage returns from its two-game road trip with all six points after a Sam Mewis brace in Seattle on Saturday night led to the team’s third straight win.

With the 2-1 victory, NC Courage becomes the first visiting team to win at Memorial Stadium, snapping the Reign’s 15-game unbeaten streak at home which dates back to 2016.

The Courage settled into its usual high-powered offense early as lethal plays developed from the visiting team’s backline up to its attacking third. The Orlando Pride (7-6-5, 26 points) offense was firing on all cylinders on Saturday night, as the Pride rolled to a 5-0 victory over Sky Blue FC (7-9-2, 23 points) at Orlando City Stadium.

With the five goals, the Pride set a team record for most goals in a match as well as the Club’s record for most goals scored at Orlando City Stadium.

Australia stun USA with an historic first-ever win in their opening Tournament of Nations match

In a tightly-contested match, the U.S. Women’s National Team could not create an equalizer despite a furious second-half push and fell 1-0 to Australia in the first match of the Tournament of Nations for both teams.

The U.S. WNT opened the game with a strong effort and almost created the game’s first goal in the 11th minute after some nice footwork from forward Christen Press outside the box found Megan Rapinoe on the left side. Rapinoe’s shot went to the near post but Australia and Houston Dash ‘keeper Lydia Williams did well to push it out for a corner kick. Read the rest of this entry →
