Women’s football is a global village: recent news about women’s football around the world
Whoever thought we would not experience great emotions in women’s football in 2017 was wrong.
We started the year with the announcements of big name player transfers, creations of new leagues and the strengthening of others, as well as the promise of great friendly matches at both club and international level.
Who, like me, can not wait for the matches of the UWCL, NWSL, Frauen Bundesliga, Dammalsvenskan, The FA WSL, D1 Féminine, Algarve Cup, 2017 SheBelieves Cup and for all other leagues and tournaments matches around the world? Raise your hand!
Women’s football has become increasingly global. The United States is no longer alone at the top, more and more nations are increasing the investments in women’s football and others that neither had a women’s football history, begin to develop their first female leagues. The women’s football world is becoming a global village. Of course it has much to do yet. Read the rest of this entry →

Defending Champion Canada announce 2017 Algarve Cup roster
Canada Women’s National Team will return to the Algarve Cup, Portugal to defend its 2016 title with a squad blending experience and youth.
The 24th edition of the invitational 2017 Algarve Cup will take place from 1 to 8 March. Canada faces Denmark on 1 March, Russia on 3 March, and hosts Portugal on 6 March, with the final match scheduled for 8 March. Here’s a reminder of all the Algarve Cup 2017 fixtures.
“This tournament will be our first opportunity to play consecutive competitive fixtures since the 2016 Rio Olympics and a chance to get our whole squad back together. The focus will be on winning the tournament, by firstly shaking off some rust and then pushing to recreate the tactical cohesion and off-field chemistry we saw in Rio,” said Head Coach John Herdman. “We have six new additions to our squad, players who showed well on our assessment camp and who will add depth to key positions and challenge the Olympic core players for places. This is a fast paced tournament where we will face one day turnarounds between games, so we will need to hit the ground running and maintain a high pace if we want to win back-to-back Algarve titles.” Read the rest of this entry →
