Seattle Reign FC Sign Goalkeeper Lydia Williams

Seattle Reign FC has announced the signing of Australian international goalkeeper Lydia Williams for the 2018 NWSL season. Per team and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“I’m excited to be joining the Reign right from the beginning for the 2018 season,” said Williams. “The club has a specific direction in mind, and I think we will play an entertaining style of football. We will be ready to compete from day one.”

Williams appeared in, and started, 11 matches during the 2017 NWSL season. Three of those matches were with Reign FC, as the club acquired the Australian international through a trade with the Houston Dash just prior to the trade deadline. Read the rest of this entry →

U.S. Soccer has announced the five nominees for the 2017 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year award, with Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan tabbed as one of this years nominees.

This year’s field also features midfielders Julie Ertz (Chicago Red Stars), Lindsey Horan (Portland Thorns FC) and Samantha Mewis (North Carolina Courage) and forward and Megan Rapinoe (Seattle Reign FC).

All five players played prominent roles during 2017 which featured a 16-game schedule and matches against seven of the other nine teams in the top-10 of the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, making this year’s slate of games the most challenging ever in the year after the World Cup/Olympic cycle. NC Courage to Take On Washington Spirit in NWSL Preseason Showdown at City Stadium in Richmond

The reigning NWSL Shield Winners North Carolina Courage are scheduled to travel to City Stadium in Richmond, Va. to take on the Washington Spirit on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 7 p.m. a week before the opening of the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Season.

In partnership with the Richmond Kickers and Richmond Strikers, the match will serve as the marquee game during the Jefferson Cup Girls Weekend, host to more than 5,000 players and 350 participating teams. Following a 72-hour private pre-sale for Season Ticket Holders, general admission tickets for $20 (VIP tickets – $35) will go on sale on Friday, Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. at RichmondKickers.com. Seattle Reign FC has announced the re-signing of forward Nahomi “Naho” Kawasumi for the 2018 NWSL season. This will be Naho’s fourth season with the club. Per team and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Orlando Pride goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe has been loaned to Westfield W-League side Sydney FC, it was announced today. Bledsoe becomes the fifth Pride player to join Australia’s premier women’s league for the NWSL offseason.

“Aubrey had a fantastic season for us this year and we’re excited for her to continue her development in Australia. Seattle Reign FC has announced the signing of English international forward Jodie Taylor, pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Taylor, who currently plays for Arsenal in the FA Women’s Super League, will join Seattle Reign FC prior to the start of the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League season. NWSL Announces FC Kansas City To Cease Operations

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced that it has re-acquired FC Kansas City LLC’s membership interest in the league and will be ceasing operations of the club, effective immediately.

“First, we’d like to recognize and thank Elam Baer and FC Kansas City LLC for their efforts this past year. We appreciate his commitment in helping the NWSL move forward,” said NWSL Managing Director of Operations Amanda Duffy. “As the league moves on, and as difficult as it is to share this news about FC Kansas City, we feel it is in the best interest of the league and the players at this time. National Women’s Soccer League Welcomes Real Salt Lake

NWSL Heads to Rio Tinto Stadium with Newly-Launched Club in Historic Sixth Season

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has announced that Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer (MLS) will own and operate a new NWSL team which will join the league starting in the 2018 season. The newly-launched club will play its home matches at Rio Tinto Stadium.

NWSL Managing Director of Operations Amanda Duffy will be joining Real Salt Lake Owner Dell Loy Hansen and Utah Governor Gary Herbert at an historic press conference in the Interform Club at Rio Tinto Stadium to formally introduce the deepening and broadening of the Claret-and-Cobalt pyramid in what Governor Herbert has long called “The State of Sport.” Read the rest of this entry →

Laura Harvey Steps Down as Seattle Reign FC Head Coach and GM

Vlatko Andonovski Named Head Coach of Reign FC

Seattle Reign FC today announced that Laura Harvey has resigned her position as head coach and general manager of the club. Reign FC also announced that it has signed former FC Kansas City head coach Vlatko Andonovski to a two-year deal to serve as the club’s head coach and executive director of Reign Academy.

Harvey will continue working with Reign FC through the end of the year, supporting Andonovski through the transition and working with the staff, coaches and players in the Reign Academy.

“I am deeply appreciative of all Laura gave to our organization over the past five years. She is a brilliant coach, but more importantly, she is a tremendous individual – there is nobody I would have rather worked with to build the club,” said Reign FC owner Bill Predmore. “Laura’s impact will be felt long after she departs, as she helped establish the enduring values that define what it means to be a part of our organization.
