FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 Groups

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 draw took place in Ottawa today (Saturday 6 December) to reveal who the 24 participating teams will face in the group stage.

The draw has created some fantastic competition and arguably the ‘Group of Death’ has to be Group D which sees USA, Australia, Sweden and Nigeria drawn together! Take a look at the Women’s World Cup seedings ahead of the draw.

Canada and China PR will kick off the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 on 6 June.

Top two in each group go through with the four best third-placed teams.

The finals will act as Europe’s qualifier for the 2016 Olympic tournament in Brazil.

    USA groups:
    1999: North Korea, Nigeria, [Denmark]
    2003: North Korea, Nigeria, Sweden
    2007: North Korea, Nigeria, Sweden
    2011: North Korea, [Colombia], Sweden
    2013: [Australia], Nigeria, Sweden

FIFA’s randomness doesn’t seem to work out so well!

I also was happy with Brazil’s group. I believe Brazil and Spain will advance. I am worried about the next phase…If we play against the group D,,, because we will face USA or Sweden.

Very happy with the draw for England. France are extremely tough opponents but England only lost on penalties against them in the last world cup and we have improved a lot since then. I think Mexico did not look very strong during their CONCACAF qualifiers so I think England will be able to overcome them. Colombia I do not have a lot of knowledge about.
USA have been drawn in a very tough group… Pia Sundhage knows the USWNT very well and could have a tactical advantage. Australia are always very tough and I think Nigeria have huge potential to advance.
