I just read on FIFA that to date, no national team have won the FIFA Women’s World Cup and then claimed Olympic gold the following year, can Nadeshiko change this?

How amazing, Gina (is that Gina ?) ! I've just read it too at the same FIFA place exactly 4'30 ago (it was before The Nightingale sung by Julee Cruise, i.e. during The Twin Peaks Theme, but you don't care about it, do you ?) and that made me worry of course. But, well, all statistics are made to be changed... And if it's France instead of Japan, it will be the same for me anyway.

Have you consciousely read FIFA's each team's dedicated page as I did ? ;)

Strange question. No-one else are in a position to. Your straw poll, with only one unambiguous vote in favour, suggests that many think they have their work cut out for them. This probably reflects how even it is at the top of the greasy pole.

I am the only one that thinks Brazil will win! hehehe I want a premium if I am right! :D

Maybe Gromit will knit and felt you a jacket, à la mode de Magdalena? Send your measurements and colour preferences to our super-hound!

Before I give my definitive predictions, can WSU precise the birth-date limit to pretend to Best Young Player title ?

Does she have to be really under 21 (not 21 years old yet, i.e. born after july 1991) or still in her 21rst year (i.e. born .. oh my... it's complicate... well, let's say she'll still be 21 at the end of the tournament ;) ?

Born on the 4th July, like Louis Armstrong, or on 14th July, like crown-princess Victoria of Sweden? I would vote for 10th August, but I am biased.

@Lars : I'd like to but I'm very busy at the moment. I've been recently knitting a new jersey for France but I have a problem with the sleeves as you can see and I had to stop, having an even more major problem with rabbits in my fridge.

But Laure and Louisa already love my first sketch of their next jersey :

I was (I'm still) hoping that born before... let's say 17th October 1990, like... well... Saki Kumagai (I chose this name at random), could be okay...

Unfortunately the "best at the end', can only be the Nadeshiko, despite my being English and living in the US, I have to support the team that has done so much for football  and whose players have the best smiles in the world.

That's really well said, Terence ! :)

Ms Kumagai does not need a best young player award. Also, she is hardly a new-comer, debutant or rookie.

I am not a great fan of these subjective awards. Therefore, I prefer sports like skiing of the alpine, X-country and biathlon (skishooting) variety but am not keen on so-called freestyle. Just look at the lengths that figure skating in particular but also diving and gymnastics have gone to try to eliminate bias in judging.

In short, the other side can have more corners and more possession than you, but you can still win 1-0 or even 2-0.
