USA and Japan among the eight teams confirmed for the Algarve Cup 2013

Olympic champions USA, World champions Nadeshiko Japan, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and China PR to participate in the Algarve Cup 2013.

The teams will meet on the south coast of Portugal on 6th to 13th March 2013.

Germany are the current Algarve Cup champions, they beat world champions Japan 4-3 in an exciting final last year.

For the European teams this will be great preparation for the UEFA Euro 2013 Championship.

Thank you to Hiroshi Umezu for this update!

Thank you Hiroshi for this news!

Another great competition to look forward to! Germany are the defending champions can they keep hold of their title?

We expect there will be 4 more teams to be announced (including hosts Portugal)

Exciting! Sort of surprised France isn't participating.  Now, to get this on TV...

"The 2012 Algarve Cup Final: Germany 4-3 Japan"

As far as I can see, Dzsenifer Marozsán (20y/o: 1. FFC Frankfurt), who shot Germany ahead in this game, is now going to participate in the U-20 Women's World Cup Japan.

At least, USA (#1), Germany (#2), Japan (#3), Sweden (#6), Denmark (#12), Norway (#13), Iceland (#16), and China PR (#19) will take part in the 2013 Algarve Cup. Please note that the figures in parentheses are the FIFA's latest world rankings.

And personally, in regard to Japan's women's national U-20 soccer team, I hope the team won't be hard hit by the absence of Mana Iwabuchi (19y/o: NTV Beleza) and Mai Kyōkawa (18y/o: INAC Kobe Leonessa).

I think France has not been invited for a long time by the organisers. That's why Les Bleues started playing in the Cyprus Cup.

That's why France can't really improve against Top nations. The French Federation prefers to go and play second rate Cyprus Cup and will cry when we'll be beaten again in S-F at Euro by Germany or Sweden.
It's particularly stupid since there is no Division 1 matches during this period of time.

I was certain that they had learnt the lesson but obviously they haven't.

Is there anybody on WSU who would be able to give me practical infos about the way to enjoy the Algarve Cup "there" ?

I mean, infos about the travelling facilities between the different locations, accomodations, etc with their cost ?

I don't know if I'd be able to do it yet but I'd love to go over there and I'd like to have more infos.

So, if someone can help, you can contact me in private maybe. Thanks ! :o)

@Sylvain

France used to be invited at Algarve and was five consecutive times in S-F between 2003 and 2007 (third in 2004 and 2005, fourth the other times). Then suddenly, from 2008, France was absent. Why ?? Is there any relation with Bini who took the team in 2007 ?

As far as I have been told, they stopped inviting us, probably because the team was not good enough at the time or other non disclosed reasons. At the end of the day, if the organisers dont rate France or dont want to invite France the FFF has no power. it is the same when the FFF invote big teams for friendlies and they all say no, except Japan recently.
