Rumours have been flying around over the last month about USA International midfielder Megan Rapinoe signing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, Olympique Lyonnais. Although there is still no official press release from Olympique Lyonnais (at the time of publishing this article), Megan Rapinoe herself has confirmed the move.
On Megan Rapinoe's official Twitter account she 'tweeted':

Whilst on Megan's official Facebook Page she commented:
Headed out to France today!!! And not for a holiday either. I am pleased to say Lyon will be my home for the next six months!!! I am thrilled at the challenge of being apart of one of the best football clubs in the World. More updates to come!! France here I come!
Megan Rapinoe is one of the USWNT's best goalscorers who always causes a threat to opposing teams. Rapinoe's passion and dedication for the game shows in her playing style and she never stops giving 100%.
Megan Rapinoe has not been the only international star to recently join Olympique Lyonnais, Nadeshiko Japan striker Shinobu Ohno transferred to the French Women's Division 1 team at the end of December 2012.
Welcome to Europe Megan Rapinoe!

Permalink Reply by Women's Soccer United on January 8, 2013 at 10:53 Good question, I think (hope) she will travel to the Algarve Cup for international duty (it will only be for about a week), we will have to wait for the roster to be announced.

Good for her. But does that mean she won't be playing for the USWNT at the Algarve Cup this march?
Permalink Reply by Deborah Bakker on January 8, 2013 at 11:33 Well she probably will go to the Algarve Cup. The week is included in the Fifa international match calendar(And UEFA too). So she can go if she's called up. But for Lyons part, a week later is CL. So I don't know,,,
Besides football stuff, seriously she will go to Portugal. Sarah Walsh is in the Algarve so I doubt she will stay in France..Hah

Google translate: this one is good news because it is one great player and I am on what will please Lyon ....
Permalink Reply by Sebastian Kanty on January 8, 2013 at 11:35 Since Algarve is played during FIFA dates, there isn't much that Lyon can do besides letting her go for these few days...There could be an agreement between the club and the national team if the player is injured, but besides that. a club can't stand in the way when FIFA dates come into play...
One of the issues swedish Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC had with their American Christen Press...Press demanded to be released from club play for other dates beside FIFA dates, which Göteborg declined, and rightly so...If she would have been released she would have missed about a third of all the league games, and that is just too much for a club who really needs their forward/player....Tyresö which signed Press for this new season, haven't said how the resolved this issue, but since they already had a very good offensive team, might have budged on this matter....But bear in mind that Press was ONLY an reserve in the Olympic team for USA, and Megan Rapinoe is a regular...and of course the dates in question...
