The Women's football Serie A was established in 1973. The Italian champions were decided from 1968 onwards, but there were two leagues. Only in 1973 a single national top-league was established. As the Serie A is currently in the top eight of UEFA women's leagues, the top two places qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League.
