Unstoppable header after a cross from the right. The Canadian was standing alone at 10 yards.

It is worth remembering that Canada, like the USA, has a highly organised interuniversity sportsprogram (CIS in English or SIC in French) which has been going for about 50 years. The participating colleges/universities play in regionalised leagues and then there is a final tournament, which this year will be at the Univ of Victoria in British Columbia (Nov 8-11). Feminin soccer is a top sport in this.
Canada were always the favourites. The red card did not help. Somehow the Canadians managed to pick up a yellow card, quite an achievement when you dominate your hapless opponents so badly.
Better luck in next match Argentina. Show the world that you are the natural daughters of all those great players. A final between USA and Canada does not look impossible, unless they meet and meat each other before.

Yeah, it's going to be a tough second half, also the fact they are down to 10 players they are really going to struggle physically
Gromit said:Agree... I really pity those poor Argentinans. How to keep a strong mental when you lose 0-5 after 45 minutes against a team you already knew before the start that it was better than you ? I hope that the coach is telling them "No matter what happens next, just enjoy to play." But it's much easier to say than to do...
Permalink Reply by Julia Bic on August 21, 2012 at 19:30 I am happy for Canada but I feel like they were holding back a bit. Missing passes, ball control etc- not playing their best. Argentina started pretty well, before the red card. Argentina had a bad night, overall they are a descent team and hopefully they can bounce back from this.
Agree. I think that the Beavers (Castori ?) can win this championship. Like virtually all the top ladies´ teams they need to learn to concentrate. Provided that they can master that tendon, they ought to do well. It is also worth remembering that "you pass to score". It was true 50 odd years ago; it is true today.
