In 1990 the German Football Association (DFB) created the German Women's Bundesliga, based on the model of the men's Bundesliga. It was first played with north and south divisions, but in 1997 the groups were merged to form a uniform league. The league currently consists of twelve teams and the seasons usually last from late summer to the end of spring with a break in the winter.

Comment by Hiroshi Umezu on Monday Kyodo News reports that Asano Nagasato has extended her contract with 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam for another year. Needless to say, she is Yūki Ōgimi's younger sister. Again, Asano Nagasato will remain with 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam for at least another two years.

Comment by Hiroshi Umezu on Friday Yūki Ōgimi, the Bundesliga's top scorer during the 2012-13 season, had an interview with Sankei Shimbun. She answered, as follows:
"Most of the Bundesliga players aim for the goal in a simple way. But it seems to me that most of the Japanese players put too much emphasis on a possession-oriented style of play, and tend to put the ball in play especially around midcourt too frequently. On the plus side, however, they do possess mental endurance and spiritual strength necessary for doing battle on the international stage. I, Yūki Ōgimi, feel that during the 2011 WWC Germany, such Japanese characteristics led the Japan's national team to victory."

Comment by Hiroshi Umezu on Friday @Women's Soccer United
Please don’t mention it. It's the least I can do for you. I will certainly keep you updated on her progress.
Comment by Women's Soccer United on Friday Thank you for the update @Hiroshi. I hope that the original rumours are true and she transfers to Chelsea.
Comment by Hiroshi Umezu on Friday As of today, Japanese newspaper Sports Hochi reports that Yūki Ōgimi has decided to leave 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam and transfer to another team, possibly, Chelsea L.F.C. She is considering moving to American, English, and Swedish club teams, each of which has thus far made her an offer. According to Sports Hochi, Yūki Ōgimi is eager to become the only Japanese player in the league. Therefore, she does not intend to pick any French team, where Shinobu Ohno (Olympique Lyonnais Féminin), Rumi Utsugi (Montpellier HSC Féminines), and Ami Otaki (Olympique Lyonnais Féminin) currently play soccer as professionals.

Comment by Gromit on May 15, 2013 at 15:59 Thanks @Gina. Yes, I saw the news yesterday on a German site (and I relayed it on a French one, actually). I'll have a look at your own article right now...
Comment by Women's Soccer United on May 15, 2013 at 15:35 @Gromit - small update on Popp here. Says that Popp has been ruled out of the German Cup on Sunday and is major doubt for the Champions League final.
Comment by Women's Soccer United on May 13, 2013 at 14:34 Thanks @Gromit.
I will see if I can find any updates about Popp.
Comment by Gromit on May 13, 2013 at 14:21 I think the answer is no since Lyon won C1 and D1 last year and there was no third French team in D1 this season, only Lyon and Juvisy.
By the way, everybody is talking about a possible "triplé" by Lyon (D1, C1 and... French Cup ;o), but Wolfsburg can do the same, since it will play the German Cup final next sunday vs Potsdam and, of course, the C1's one the week after.
Any news about "Poppi"'s injury seriousness ?
