Permalink Reply by Gromit on July 13, 2012 at 15:29 Last year at the German WC, two North-Korean players were tested positive to steroids after the second match of their team. Some days after the tournament ended, Fifa revealed that three other players had been caught. Those five players were condemned to 18 and 14 months of suspension. The national team's physician got 6 years ban and the North-Korean Federation had to pay 400,000 dollars. And North Korea is banned from next WC (2015).
Is there someone here who could tell us how the North Korea Federation has rebuilt its team for those Olympics. Well, I'm aware to ask some lights about North Korea is like asking what is happening in a black hole, but… He who never asks, will never get answered… ;)
Gromit, old hound, you ask such difficult questions. You should be concentrating on making sure that Les Bleues check their medicine cabinettes.
I expect that the Olympic football tournament is not formally a FIFA event? There is a Gbr team because the Olympics do not recognise subdivisions. Make sense, otherwise the USA could turn up with 50 teams, for example. I presume the competition abides by FIFA laws and FIFA recognised referees will be used, but the Olympic committee decides who is allowed to compete? Maybe the Germans could have asked for a DDR team for old times sake? Who knows.
Keep checking those medicines, Gromit!
Permalink Reply by Women's Soccer United on July 13, 2012 at 18:08 I found this from a previous article when Korea DPR beat Australia to the last berth at the Olympics they lodged a complaint about Korea DPR being allowed to play
After the qualifying tournament the Australian Olympic Committee lodged a protest with the International Committee as they felt that Korea DPR should not be allowed to play in the olympics having been banned from the women's World Cup 2015 by FIFA.
FIFA ruled in favour of Korea DPR and have allowed them to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games because their sanction applies only to the competition in which the players failed the drugs test, (in this case the women's World Cup Germany 2011).
Here is Korea DPR's Women's World Cup, Germany 2011 squad
Permalink Reply by Gromit on July 13, 2012 at 19:28 @WSU : Thank you, dearie, for this article. I didn't know about this Australian complaint.
I checked : the condemned players were Pok Sim-jong, Myong Hui-hong, Un Byol-ho and Un Hyang-ri (18 months) and Jong Sun-song (14 months). They are of course not in the Olympics squad.
