Steven Mune, who coached the Papua New Guinea women to a historic third Pacific Games title in a row in September, named a 29-strong wider squad in November and has put that group through its paces over recent weeks with training centres in Port Moresby and Lae.
The players were given one more chance to impress during a final training camp in Lae last week before Mune sat down to make his selection for the Oceania qualifiers for London 2012, set to take place in Tonga during March.
Mune and his team will then embark to Australia to finish off their preparations with a one-week camp in the Gold Coast.
Once in Tonga, Papua New Guinea will come up against six of the eight other OFC member associations who are International Olympic Committee members - namely American Samoa, Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu - in a tournament based on a league system with semi-finals and a final.
The winner of the preliminary stage final will then play New Zealand in a home-and-away play-off for the last place at the London Olympics 2012.
