TOP GOALSCORER - Alex Morgan
PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT - Le Sommer / Ellen White

These predictions are quite difficult with just three groups and the third place finish progressing, it is quite confusing lol.
I may change my mind.... again!

Silver-Japan
Bronze-France
Permalink Reply by Dağhan Irak on July 20, 2012 at 21:38 I completely agree with your group standings. I also agree with most of your knock-out guesses, except that I don't see a team beating the USA in any game. Silver and bronze may go to Japan, France, GB, Brazil or Sweden, any of them but the gold will go to the USA, IMHO.
Group Stage Final Standings:
Group E:
1. Brazil
2. Great Britain
3. New Zealand
4. Cameroon
Group F:
1. Japan
2. Sweden
3. Canada
4. South Africa
Group G:
1. USA
2. France
3. Korea DPR
4. Colombia
Quarter-Finals:
Japan v France (France WIN) ---> Not Sure but whoever wins will reach the final
USA v Canada or New Zealand (USA WIN)
Great Britain v Sweden (Sweden WIN) ---> Not Sure but whoever wins will get the bronze
Brazil v Canada or Korea DPR (Brazil WIN)
Semi-finals
France v Sweden (France WIN)
USA v Brazil (USA WIN)
3rd Place
Sweden v Brazil (Sweden WIN)
The Final
France v USA (USA WIN)
FINAL STANDINGS!
GOLD - USA
SILVER - France
Bronze - Sweden
Permalink Reply by Asa on July 20, 2012 at 21:54 My Player's Of The Tournament = Eugenie Le Sommer (France) , Alex Morgan (USA)

Top Goalscorer = Ellen White (Team GB)

Best Goalkeeper Save = Ayumi Kaihori (Japan)

Best Young Player = Robyn Moodaly (South Africa)

Best Goal Of The Tournament = Grazielle (Brazil)
We also have to predict the winners of the awards that Gromit drew up:
DAME award could be "Defender Anticipating Marvellous Erika's shot."
LARS award : "Loveliest Attack Resulting in Scoring"
ASA award : "Anatomically Superior Attacker" -- which ego thinks should be "Aerodynamically Superb Attacker" or "Aesthetically Supreme Attacker" (the typesetter´s humble opinion)
WSU award : "Wonderful Shot (alas) Underrated"
HIROSHI award : "Hottest International Rookie Offering Skilled Headers In fine". (Please, understand : a goal headed in injury time, "in fine" being Latin for you)
GROMIT award: "Greatest Run Over Midfield In (the nick of tea) Time".
any suggestions?
Permalink Reply by Gromit on July 20, 2012 at 22:08 I have to think harder about it...
My main problem is that I have a rule : I never ever do a prediction as soon as a French team is concerned.
So... for the moment... my predictions will be something like that :
Group Stage Final Standings:
Group E:
1. Brazil
2. Great Britain
3. New Zealand
4. Cameroon
Group F:
1. Japan
2. Sweden
3. Canada
4. South Africa
Group G:
1. USA or France
2. France or USA
3. Korea DPR
4. Colombia
Quarter-Finals:
Japan v France or Usa (?)
USA or France v Canada (USA or France WIN)
Great Britain v Sweden (Sweden WIN, maybe on penalties... English malediction will contaminate all GB)
Brazil v Korea DPR (Brazil WIN)
Semi-finals
France or Japan or Usa v Sweden (France or Japan or Usa WIN)
USA or France v Brazil (USA or France WIN)
3rd Place
Sweden v Brazil (Yellow jersey WIN)
The Final
France v USA or Usa v Japan or Japan v France (??)
FINAL STANDINGS:
GOLD - France or Usa or Japan
SILVER - USA or Japan or France
Bronze - Brazil or Sweden (probably Brazil)
Top Goalscorer - Alex Morgan
Player of the tournament - Louisa Necib
Save of the tournament - Hope Solo or Sarah Bouhaddi
Goal of the tournament - Marta
Best young player of the tournament - I haven't studied the teams yet

Sorry, Gromit old hound, but no "ors" allowed. I do not know about oars because, maybe, if it rains a lot they might be needed. Remember ABBA: "The Winner Takes It All". Do you believe in angels? Maybe there should be an angel award -- but what for?

I answer : Please, please, please (copyright James Brown), as Elvis sang: "Don't Be Cruel", I don't want to remember anything from ABBA !
And good Lars asked too :"Do you believe in angels? Maybe there should be an angel award -- but what for?"
As Scully and Mulder used to say: "I want to believe" (but I don't..).
Anyway... your idea is good. Last year Angel Award goes retroactively and collectively to Japan. And individually to Homare Sawa.
Who can win it this year ?? And as you wonder, what for ? Angelic face or smile ? (I'd vote for Erika), Angelic way of moving with the ball on the field ? (I'd vote for Necib). Angelic way of saving the lost cause ? (I'd vote by anticipation for Wambach but it's too much easy ;). Angelic ways of flying high (without smoking anything that could make laugh) ? (Renard, of course)... Any other angelic ideas ?
The fun part of speculating is to see how wrong you got it when the fat lady has sung.
Gold = USA; Silver = UK; Bronze = North-Korea
(I do not know if that is possible with this complicated tournament structure but here I type and can noT BE BotherED to check)
As for the various awards, they tend to follow the final standings but sometimes, like last year, the organisers like to put some plasters on the wounds ...
-- Top goalscorer = Alex Morgan
-- Player = the captain of USA (ex officio, else they would not have won)
-- Save = Sarah Bouhaddi (the French goalie)
-- Goal = Miyama
-- Best young player -- it depends on what "young" means, which is not clear to me
Careful, Gromit cheese-eating surrender-hound. ABBA is Sweden´s gift to Australian culture.
