Verily, he is correct because on all those videos where they are interviewed they always have luminous smiles and are animated and winsome. I presume it is natural or do they send them to a special media training school because it Is what the Japanese public expects?

That's really well said, Terence ! :)

Unfortunately the "best at the end', can only be the Nadeshiko, despite my being English and living in the US, I have to support the team that has done so much for football  and whose players have the best smiles in the world.

Hehe, there won't be strict guidelines for the young player of the tournament we are very lenient ;-)

Lol!!

I am the only one that thinks Brazil will win! hehehe I want a premium if I am right! :D

I'm not sure if it's expected, during the World Cup the Nadeshiko won a lot of respect with  their sign before each game  thanking the world for it's support for the Japanese earthquake victims,Aya Sameshima used to work and play for, the damaged Fukishima nuclear plant, and has now signed to play for their reformed footbal team, Vengalta Sendai, next season. I don't think the world can get enough of happy, smiling young people who love what they do.

Final team standings USA Gold France Silver Brazil Bronze
Top Goalscorer Abby Wambach
Player of the tournament Megan Rapinoe
Save of the tournament Solo
Goal of the tournament Marta
Best young player of the tournament  not sure.

FYI Leroux is over 21-she's 22 so she's not eligible for youngest player.

Morgan has a bulls-eye on her back so I think Abby is going to take advantage of the lighter pressure. Rapinoe will probably get most assists so I'm giving her player of the tournament. She was incredible vs Canada.

Verily, she is older than Saki Kumagai who does not need the award. Tant pis, as Gromit would say.

Thanks Amy, predictions added above. Really good point about Morgan, the opposition will try and stop her getting into the game.

Thanks for the info on Leroux, that makes a lot of the young player nominations invalid lol :/

Ok.Don't let us fret anymore. Time to assume reponsibilities.
Here are my updated predictions (could be updated again after the first day) :

Group E : 1. Brazil 2. GB 3. N-Z  4. Cameroon
Group F : 1. Japan 2. Sweden 3.Canada 4. South-Africa
Group G : 1. France 2. Usa 3. Korea DPR 4. Colombia
Canada and Korea DPR best 3rd.

QF :

Japan-Usa (Japan wins 2-1) Usa out at this stage of competition will be the first tournament shock.
France-Canada (France wins 2-0)
G-B - Sweden (Sweden wins on penaltys -1-1 a.e.t. -, usual English malediction contaminating GB). Second shock of the tournament.
Brazil-Korea (Brazil wins 3-1).

S-F :
Japan-Sweden (Japan wins 2-1).
France-Brazil (France wins as usual against Brazil, 2-1).

Bronze medal match :
Brazil-Sweden (Brazil wins on penalties after a score of 2-2 a.e.t.).

Final :
Japan France (France wins 6-5... er... 3-2 a.e.t.).

Gold : France
Silver : Japan
Bronze : Brazil

Top Goal-Scorer : Marta (Brazil)
Best Player : Louisa Necib (France) or Wendie Renard (France)
Best Save : Sarah Bouhaddi (France)
Best Goal : Saki Kumagai (she never scored for Japan yet, it's time !)
Best Young Player : Thais (Brazil)

As for most of you, it's maybe more hopes than real predictions... ;)

I hate to say it, Gromit, but I doubt that Sweden will get out of its group. I think RSA may well go through.

No, I think Gromit has it about right, although I am hoping Japan manages to beat France. These high level tournaments require a great deal of mental strength as well as technique, Olympic Gold Medals are not won easily as we shall see, it will be just a wonderful competition. Can't wait for tomorrow.

I agree with you Terence, but I am in Stockholm and watched Hammarby  play Uppsala. Hammarby won 9-0. It was such a treat for me. I continue to hope that  Sweden beats Japan and gets the Silver and USA the Gold!. And because so many on this thread have raised valid points about France, I could stand to see them get the Bronze. ;)
