Permalink Reply by Hiroshi Umezu on May 13, 2012 at 8:49 INAC Kobe Leonessa, NTV Beleza, and Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies have stayed unbeaten since the season opener. In other words, the three strong teams described above have thus far maintained their undefeated records in Japan's Nadeshiko League.
And personally, I'm heartily glad that AS Elfen Sayama rallied a 2-2 draw with Speranza F.C. Osaka Takatsuki. Today's was a valuable draw with Takatsuki that helps get a good placing in the L. League. AS Elfen Sayama almost won the L. League match against Speranza F.C. Osaka Takatsuki. AS Elfen Sayama is now ranked No.7 among the 10 teams which the L. League Division 1 currently hosts. For your information, the L. League Division 2 is referred to as the "Challenge League."

Attendances of 3910 and 3183 are to die for. Even 942 would be an excellent attendance in most, if not all, other leagues. Let´s hope Japan´s football federation can build on this and not let it slip. Who are the main sponsors in Japan? Kirin Brewery? But who else? Makers of makeup and bath-oils, or luxury lingerie?

Hiroshi old bean, please can you explain some of the names of the teams for us? Leonessa, I presume, are Lionesses, like the Lionesses of Millwall in London. Speranza I guess are the Hopeful or Optimists or Cheerful? Beleza are the Most Beautiful, with the obviosu rejoinder "Are they"? Elfen Sayama? The Woodsprites of Sayama? The Sayama Elevens?
In most of Europe there is not tradition of naming teams like in North-America. Instead nicknames develop over time and can have peculiar histories, though most are obvious.
Permalink Reply by Hiroshi Umezu on May 13, 2012 at 15:04 From what I've gathered: Leonessa means "lioness" in Italian, while, as you said, Beleza means "beautiful women" in Portuguese. Elfen is referred to as "soccer athletes" in German. Therefore, Elfen Sayama stands for the "Sayama Eleven."
Verily. A penalty in German is "ein Elfmeter" on account of the spot being 11 m from the goal (strictly speaking it is 12 yds I suppose seeing that football developed in England).
Meanwhile are the NTV Beleza beautiful or merely pretty? Maybe they play beautiful football, though that is not always enough to win.

I have done a search in our videos for Nadeshiko and here are some this seasons games. Hiroshi Umezu is very good at providing videos and great information from the league :):) I'm not sure if you are able to watch any of the league games live online.
