Defending champions INAC Kobe opened their 2012 women’s Nadeshiko League title campaign on a winning note after romping over Speranza Osaka Takatsuki 7-0 at home on Sunday.
INAC had 25 attempts on goal and Korean international Ji So Yun opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Japan attacker Shinobu Ohno scored with a free-kick in the 31st minute, her 151st goal setting a new league record.
Megumi Takase followed a minute later, with a strike from a Ji pass before rookie forward Maki Kyokawa celebrated her career debut with a headed goal in the 43rd minute, giving Kobe a 4-0 lead at halftime.
The defending champions’ domination continued after the break and Nahomi Kawasumi, Junko Kai and Kyokawa added further goals.
“We did the things we’ve been working on in preseason and had many players involved in our scoring,” said INAC coach Kei Hoshikawa.
In Tokyo, NTV Beleza downed Fukuoka J. Anclas 5-0 at Tama Track and Field Stadium.
Forward Asano Nagasato struck twice, with Japan defender Azusa Iwashimizu, Kanako Ito and substitute forward Mina Tanaka scoring once each as they unleashed 24 shots.
Beleza captain Iwashimizu said, “Every member of our team did their best in defense and offense to give us a good start. We should make sure we carry this into our next game.”
Beleza coach Akemi Noda commented: “It was good to win the game, but we should have scored more on the chances we had. We’d like to win all our games in the first half of the season and win the league.”
Urawa Reds Ladies also won 5-0, over hosts Elfen Sayama.
Following Akiko Niwata’s 32nd-minute opener, Eriko Arakawa headed home in the 51st minute before Chinatsu Kira scored in the 57th and 76th minutes. Midfielder Yuki Yasuda completed the scoring for Urawa two minutes later.
Okayama Yunogo Belle beat JEF United Chiba-Ichihara Ladies 2-1 at home.
Japan midfielder Aya Miyama set up both goals for Yunogo with pin-point deliveries, first to Chihiro Nakagawa in the 33rd minute and then for Saori Arimachi’s tiebreaker in the 51st minute.
In Niigata, forward Sayaka Oishi found the target twice to highlight Albirex Niigata Ladies’ 3-0 win over visiting Iga FC Kunoichi.
The women’s Nadeshiko League consists of 10 teams and runs through November 11, with a break between June 11 and September 14 due to national team activities.
At the end of the season, the bottom team will be relegated to the Nadeshiko Challenge League, with the lower division winners winning promotion to the top flight.
The ninth-placed team will move on to a playoff against the second-placed team of the Challenge League. However, if the lower-division team is not qualified as a Nadeshiko League associate member, the playoff will not take place and the ninth-placed team will remain in the top division.

The exact number of spectators who gathered to watch the game between AS elfen Sayama F.C. and Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies should be 2,057. This game was what is called "Saitama Derby," a derby match in Saitama Prefecture next to Tokyo.
