Comment by Ken Suzuki on May 9, 2013 at 14:40 Just finished watching the video of Seattle vs. Kansas City. The game is so-so. Fishlock is less impressive than the last time. Actually, I "enjoyed" half-time break more than the game because the TV commentators interviewed 2 women, first Hope Solo, then Amy Rodriguez. One commentator is Leslie Gallimore, the coach of University of Washington, and Solo's former mentor. Nothing special about Rodriguez-Gallimore conversation, a two-women chatting. But talk with Solo is both informative and interesting.
First, Solo says her present injury is left wrist, she will be back for the national team on June 15 and for Seattle either mid or end of June. (And she got married in November.) Then Solo and Gallimore were asked how they think of each other. They both say "You are free to lie." :D
While Solo simply says Gallimore was her role model in school days, Gallimore says Solo is "a big personality, not necessarily good, not necessarily bad, and a last remaining Tomboy." This kind of comment easily confuses me as it sounds unfriendly, almost insulting, to my Japanese ears. But, maybe, this is nothing serious in American culture? Generally, though, Gallimore praises Solo as athlete.
Gallimore also says Solo needs a "breather" after she came back from shoulder surgery too soon. Solo confirms this by saying the shoulder surgery was meant to be 18-months recovery but she was back in 9 months !! (And her performance in 2011 WWC was still superb.)

Comment by A-Hamm on April 21, 2013 at 4:06 People will want to tune in for Thorns-Reign tomorrow. Confirmed they've sold 16,000+ tickets. I believe Portland said their home streams will all be in HD, and I assume they'll use Timbers announcers/equipment, so it will be TV quality. They also made custom Thorns banners/tarps to put around the stadium over the Timbers logos. Hope they're setting a good precedent that will entice places like Vancouver, and help other teams build their fanbases.
