England - South Korea 0-0 Peace Cup 2010

The second game of group A took place in Suwon, Korea. In the second game, Korea took on England. Korea was in pressing situation to get to the final and they, therefore, should win the game  to do so.

Despite a good game of the first game, which ended in a scoreless draw, they should win the game to get to the final. Players on attack, including Gaeul Jeon, Soyun Ji and Heeyoung Park, assailed lively in front of a goal post of England, experienced English, however, blocked Korean so well.

England started to attack at about 5minute, strikers on both sides actively moved in the goal area. At 12minute in the first half, a turning shoot of Rachel Yankey went slightly out of crossbar of Korea, which made home-side spectators tremble.

A few minutes later, Korea strove against England using well-organized set play and counterattack in spite of being driven to the corner.  At 29minute, Korea missed a good chance to score since a shoot of Soyun ji didn’t go into the goal. Many spectators let a sigh then.

In the second half, Incheul Choi, Korean team coach, got Narae Kim out of the field and got Yunhee Cha in, this decision made Korea more aggressively. In addition to this, side attack of Gaeul Jeon and Sooyun Kim became more actively, Korea finally dominated the game in the second half.

At 15minute, shoot of Soyun Ji unluckily didn’t go through the goal, many shots after this also didn’t get into.

England to counterattack, Hope got Allen White into the field and she shot twice, which were unfortunately not into the goal. Right before the end, White’s shot was parried off by Minkyung Jeon, goal keeper, who showed many brilliant defend already.

As a result, this thrilling game ended in scoreless draw, consecutively to the game before. Korea finished the preliminary two draws and England started this campaign a draw.

Korea should watch the result of the next game of England and New Zealand to know the way they go.

There used to be many scores in women’s soccer than men’s. However, there was no goal among 2 games of Group A unfortunately. Although there was not any, those were excellent games to watch and most exciting ones ever.
