In front of an amazing record breaking crowd of 50,212 at the Olympiastadion in Munich, Olympique Lyonnais joined Umeå IK as the only teams to successfully defend the women's European club trophy.

The final did not disappoint to showcase women's football at it's best. Fantastic skill displayed from both teams in front of a huge crowd.

Joint leading UEFA Women's Champions League top scorers Eugénie Le Sommer & Camille Abily scored the two goals of the game and they both end this year's competition with 9 goals each.

Le Sommer opened the scoring with a penalty in the 15th minute. Behringer committed the foul against Traña in the box and referee Jenny Palmqvist had no option but to give the penalty.

The goal for Lyon changed the game, after Frankfurt's initial early pressure that caused Lyon to concede 4 corners in the opening 8 minutes, they went on the back foot and Lyon relaxed more into the game.

In the 28th minute Abily scores a stunner as she lobs the keeper Schumann on the volley! Schumann had come out to head the clearance away but the ball only went as far as the waiting Abily.

Frankfurt had chances to get a ball back before the end of the half, Behringer and Garefrekes both with goalscoring opportunities that they could not convert.

The second half continued the same, with the majority of chances falling to Lyon who were denied often by on form Schumann and also the woodwork on some occasions!

As the minutes ticked the way Frankfurt looked to be running out of ideas to get back into the final and the game remained Lyon 2-0 Frankfurt.

Hard luck for Frankfurt who had a great UWCL tournament and now have to rely on finishing second in the German Bundesliga to get back into next years Women's Champions League competition.

A fantastic achievement for Olympique Lyonnais who retain their crown and are on target for winning the treble this season (they beat Montpellier in the Coupe de France on Sunday).

More reaction and official photos from the UEFA Women's Champions League Final still to come...
