With less than 3 hours until kick off in the second leg of the last 32 UEFA Women’s Champions League match against Valur, Glasgow City Assistant Coach, Donald Jennow, knows there is not much more the coaching staff can do to prepare the players for this must win game.
He said, “We have analysed our last match intensely and gone over all of our coaching points in depth with the team, the main thing now is for them simply to have belief. I certainly feel we are more than capable of getting a result and it would be a fantastic achievement if we could do it and get to the last 16. We know Valur’s strengths and of course their weaknesses and the girls have all of the capabilities and knowledge of how to win this game, so it is up to them now.”
City are boosted by the return to fitness of Jo Love and Emma Mitchell who both slot straight into the starting line up. The Scottish Champions are of course without their Captain Rachel Corsie, who was unable to travel due to work commitments, but Jennow feels there are more than enough leaders in the team to step up and be counted on the night. He said, “Losing Rachel is of course a big blow. She is a great player and is our Captain. But we have lots of leaders in this team and this match requires every single player to step up and be counted. Without doubt having Jo and Emma back is a fantastic boost to the squad and we hope they will have an impact on the match.”
