Buffalo, NY—(January 31, 2011) The Western New York Flash of Women’s Professional Soccer have announced today that they have resigned two players from their 2010 W-League Championship team, Canadian International Kelly Parker and English U-23 player Gemma Davison.

Parker, 29, will return to the Flash after a successful season with the franchise in the W-League. She was named W-League MVP for the second time in her career, the first player to ever have done so. Parker, who has 12 caps for the Canadian National Team, led the W-League with 11 goals and 5 assists for 27 points in just 7 matches. In the Flash’s run to the Championship title, the Saskatchewan native scored 4 goals and assisted on three others. Immediately following the Flash’s title, Parker was one of three players to immediately be picked up by WPS clubs after the game was televised live on Fox Soccer Channel. She returned to Sky Blue FC, where in 2009 she appeared 17 times, starting 12 of those matches for the WPS Champions and registering 1 assist on the year. In addition to her WPS, W-League, and International experience, Parker also played for SC Freiburg in the German Bundesliga in 2010.

“Kelly was a big part of our W-League Championship last season. She has a good understanding of the game and makes dangerous runs from the midfield. Her experience on and off the field is invaluable for our club,” Head Coach Aaran Lines says.

Davison, 23, will returns to the WNY area along with Parker. Davison is a young, talented player who has appeared regularly for the English U19, U21 National squads and is currently on the U-23 National team. Due to international clearance issues, Davison only played in 5 games for the W-League Champions but was integral to the squads Championship run, assisting on three goals and scoring the game tying goal in the Championship game. Davison began her career with the Watford Ladies before joining the youth set up at Arsenal. She progressed through the youth system and established herself as a regular in the Arsenal squad in 2006, appearing 68 times with 14 goals during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.

“Gemma is a young, dynamic player who has excellent physical attributes. She is an exciting player to watch and has a lot of potential for the future,” Lines says of Davison.

I am actually super annoyed that Arsenal did not sign Gemma on a pro contract to rpevent this from happening. I am sure they gave one of those to hoof which is a waste of money and time.
I remember when Gemma played with the Chicago Red Eleven! What a dynamic player and happy to see her move up to the WPS! Good luck Gemma!! :)

A loss for the women's super league, great signing for NY Flash and the WPS. She has a lot of experience and is still at a young age, good luck to her hope she has a great season.
