New Zealand to play an international friendly against Japan in Wellington in June.

New Zealand Football Ferns will host Nadeshiko Japan for an international friendly match in Wellington in June.

The match is scheduled to take place on Sunday 10 June, kick-off 3pm at the Westpac Stadium, Wellington. The game will be broadcast live on SKY Sport.

New Zealand are currently number 20 in the latest release (23 March 2018) of the FIFA World Rankings and Japan sit at number 11.

Japan have recently qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup after becoming the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, their second successive title.

New Zealand will use this friendly match as part of their preparations for next year’s World Cup hosted in France.

The friendly match in June will mark the first home game for the Football Ferns since 2015 when they played Australia Matildas.

These two sides have met eight times previously with Japan winning six matches and the other two ending in draws. The most recent head to head was in 2015 which Nadeshiko won 1-0.
