Canada falls to USA in Morace's debut

Carolina Morace will just have to wait for her first taste of victory while on home soil. Tonight’s match was her fifth as the head coach for the Canadian women’s national team and her first at home during the 2009 season, which unfortunately didn’t go as well as she would have liked. Canada suffered a 4:0 shut-out by the Americans in front of 10,255 spectators at the BMO Field in Toronto.

The Americans weren’t worried coming into tonight’s match – after all, they had won their last… Continue

Soroti girls shrug off the frowns to challenge the norm in Katine

In a football stadium in Soroti town in north-east Uganda two teenage girls are practising their skills with Aleluya Ladies football club. Soroti is about 20km from the sub-county of Katine, where the Guardian and Barclays are funding a development project implemented by Amref.

These two girls are lucky to be allowed to play. Women's football is a relatively new idea in Uganda and in this rural region it is still frowned upon. "Culturally and traditionally, society has a negative… Continue

American Soccer

This year has been a big year for American soccer. The Womens league started and the MLS has expanded.
The USL is getting more air time on Fox Soccer Channel. ESPN already shows MLS games. It's very encouraging for American fans of the game to see so much activity in this sport. The rest of the world seems to be more interested also with many international players coming aboard. We just need a few superstars in each league to get the publicity they deserve.

4th May 2009 Womens Fa Cup Final - Arsenal 2 v 1 Sunderland

I have just finished watching the Women's Fa Cup Final between Arsenal and Sunderland.

Firstly another great attendance of 23,291 turned up at Pride Park, Derby to watch the game. Which always great news for the women's game.

I have to admit I expected Northern Division side Sunderland to struggle playing against Premier League and Fa Cup holders Arsenal, but I was pleasently suprised with a great fight from both teams.

The Sunderland keeper Helen Alderson was unlucky to conceed… Continue
