Brighton & Hove Albion 1 Bristol Academy 3

Match report from: http://bawfc.k-hosting.co.uk/?p=1074

Bristol Academy started their pre season campaign with an away trip to southern divison Brighton & Hove Albion at Bongor Regis Town FC. After a long journey down through heavy rain and traffic it was great to see the playing surface in great condition.

As the game kicked off Brighton started at a very high tempo but it wasn’t long before Bristol settled down and began to dictate the play, many chances came Bristol’s way hitting the crossbar twice before Alex Windell scored from close range just before halftime.

The second half continued in the same way with Brighton working and pressing very hard without really causing the dominating keeper Siobhan Chamberlin any trouble. On 60 minutes Helen Bleazard doubled the score before Brighton brought on substitutes to try and combat Bristol’s relentless pace and work rate. After having several efforts cleared off the line and many great saves from Brighton’s impressive keeper Bristol’s substitute Racheal Pitman made it 0 – 3.

After this Bristol brought on some more fresh young legs before they conceded a free kick on the edge of the box which resulted in a goalmouth scramble and a late consolation goal for Brighton.

At the end of the game Mark Sampson (Bristol Academy manager) commented “It was a very competitive game which is exactly what we were looking for. We used a mixture of senior players and youngsters who I felt all did themselves justice. Credit to Mike and his staff they’re doing a great job at Brighton and we had to work very hard to come away with another win”
