It really is so hard to justify that amount of money a week, and pretty much all the men's players at the top level get that sort of money, it is madness. I suppose the one advantage for the women in the game is you can be sure the players are not money orientated and a full of passion for the game and the hunger to play as much as possible. I am so impressed with Marta's work rate she hasn't stopped and had a rest yet, which just shows you her love the game. I think there are many men players who are happy to sit on the bench every week and not play but just cash in the 150,000 a week!
That looks like a scary press conference!!! lol

Depending on the site you visit, you can get little or no information about women's soccer. It's really sad to see a talent such as Marta not having a team to play, because of salary issues, when you have male players earning huge ammounts of money. Just to give you an idea, Ronaldinho has just been introduced as a player of Flamengo. He will earn more than 750,000 dollars a month (more than Marta received for an entire season with WPS). By the way, I'm a Flamengo supporter, but I'd never pay such an ammount to a guy who is past his prime, is allegedly fond of spending nights at nightclubs and is not exactly known for his work ethic.
It's getting tougher and tougher to raise kids and tell them to study, because you can quit your studies, play soccer and earn millions.
...and, by the way, look at what the fans did to watch his press conference:
Shame on us brazilians!
Comment by Women's Soccer United on January 11, 2011 at 22:36 I'm glad you found some articles. It will not surprise you to hear that as I was reading an article in one of England's biggest newspapers about the Fifa Ballon D'or there was not one little mention about the women's awards.
They mentioned the World Player of the year (Messi), the World Coach of the year (Mourinhno) then went on to name the starting eleven in the men's fifa pro world xI (each player and their club). By reading this alone you would not even know there were any awards give to women involved in the sport.
