France 1-1 Brazil - International Friendly (9th March 2013)

Game Day! France take on Brazil in the second International friendly match, after drawing 2-2 in Nancy on Wednesday.

The exciting replay will take place on Saturday 9th March 2013 in Rouen at 20:50 CET, live on D8.

The first match was played in front of 16,752 spectators in Nancy, and saw the Brazilians take the lead in the 33rd minute through a Giovana header. It was substitute Eugenie Le Sommer who scored the equaliser for France in the 57th Minute, before Giovana reacted to a Bouhaddi goalkeeping error to put Brazil back in front. Just four minutes left to play and France earn a penalty which was converted by Thiney to level the game and end as 2-2.

There was a lot of action in the opening friendly and both teams are now familiar with each others style of play. It will be great to see what lessons were learnt from the first match and how both teams approach the replay!

After seeing and reading about all the games that have been played recently, and especially the teams that will compete in the European Championship, I can't say that a single one team has made an impression. France and Germany are mostly caught in a tie-swamp. That meaning that almost all except Germany's latest game vs Japan has ended in ties. France must score on the multiple of chances they get. It seems to me that if Wendie Renard is absent, France looses the ability to win. I think she is much more important than any other player on the French team.

Although England won the match against Scotland before the Cyprus Cup, they struggled to do so now and ended with a tie. Can't really say why, because I didn't see any of Englands game of late. One thing is certain, they must win over their weaker opponents. Finland played pretty well against Canada after reading some reports. It's such a tragic loss for Finland to loose their best goalscorer Linda Sällström, to yet another ACL injury..She tore her ACL just before the beginning of Damallsvenskan last season, and was absent for the entire period. She just got back, and she does it again. Finland without Sällström is like, Canada without Sinclair...

Sweden is Sweden. Has very often a hard time creating chances, and when they do, aren't as efficient in scoring as some other countries. The gamve vs Iceland should be disregarded, since Iceland didn't have their best eleven for injuries. Sara Björk Gunnarsdottir, and Margret Lara Vidarsdottir, with the latter making the most goals for Iceland, but prone to injuries.

France are technically an excellent team. However, from the matches against Brazil, as well as in major tournaments, they tend to dominate possession, create chances, but are wasteful with their finishing in a way a team like the USA is not. Frustration will affect their game to an extent, but for me, they don't have a "killer instinct", and are just not clinical enough.

@Sass - Very interesting points, they do need to work on their finishing, as it is such a waste of numerous chances they create. Do you think when they get frustrated it effects their game?

I know @Ali, so many chances created!

Just saw the highlights - great game! On chances, France had so much more, yet couldn't finish. The second penalty was dodgy to say the least. It is clear that there are some new and upcoming players in the Brazil setup. This is good because they definitely need to grow as a team plus everyone is familiar with Marta, Cristiane etc. For France check this - recent games against Germany 1-1 & 3-3; against England 2-2; now against Brazil - 2-2 & 1-1, notice a pattern? Against all these teams, not a single victory.... To take the next step, for all their talent, Bruno Bini still has work to do.

Wow just watching the highlights was like a flash back to the bronze medal game of the Olympics, how France dominates Canada but lost in the end, But its better that they tied today.

@Jean-Paul - Agree with you there... I lost count of the amount of chances created by France that were not converted, or they were unlucky. It seems to happen to them a lot! Was an exciting match to watch though, but got a bit heated at times!

To sum up briefly : France clearly dominated Brazil; they had many opportunities to score. Brazil had almost none. France hit the post, then France gifted a goal for Brazil, France hit the post again, then France missed a penalty, France showed they were superior but harmless in front of the goal again and again....but enough so to acquiring another penalty in the end....same ol' same ol'...

@Sebastian - They got two penalties in this match (one missed by Le Sommer and the other scored by Necib). The first was given for handball again (not sure the Brazilian player knew much about it) and the second was for a foul.

Hahah I know what you mean, so many games!! You are right they scored a penalty in the first friendly, I think that was for handball, again possibly harsh decision.

Since I didn't see the game,I can't comment about the play. How is it that France got another penalty? Didn't they get a pk in the last encounter, or have I completely gone luny?..Have watched so many games this week, both womens and mens, that I seem to blur them all together.
