Marta's agent Fabiano Farah has told Swedish Eurosport she has spoken to four clubs in Sweden, Tyresö FF, Malmö, Linköping and Umeå.
Two clubs in Sweden have openly expressed interest in signing five times winner of FIFA World Player of the Year, Göteborg and Umeå IK. German team FFC Frankfurt are also keen to sign the Brazilian star.
Marta enjoyed a successful season with WNY Flash in the US Women's Professional Soccer league but with financial struggles the league is struggling to keep some of the biggest stars. The 2012 season will see only five teams competing compared to the seven teams that launched the league in 2009.
Marta is one of the biggest names in women's football and is rumoured to be the highest paid player. The former president of Chicago Red Stars told the Vancouver Sun than the average in the WPS is between 50,000 to 100,000 dollars per season, however Marta can earn somewhere between 400,000 to 500,000 dollars per season.
As far as we know Marta has not made any comment about whether she wants to leave the USA and WNY Flash at this time she is still very much part of their team. Marta's WNY Flash team-mate Caroline Seger recently made the move from the WPS team to Swedish side Tyresö FF

Comment by Sebastian Kanty on January 31, 2012 at 16:39 @wsu - i highly doubt that the wps will return in 2013, but you can always hope. if it comes back, it will once again change letters and start a fresh, with yet another business model. just read that the wps made the decision a week ago, but decided to wait with the news until the concacaf tournament was over. really nice timing, the transfer windows closes today for most leagues in europe, so that only leaves norway and sweden...don't know about finland. read on another forum that the french has no transfer windows at all, so maybe france? and what about asian countires?
marta will now have to change her pricetag, b/c 3,5m SEK, or ~ 514,000 $ as she demands of the swedish clubs will now have to lowered. if she don't, she might risk be out of club, cause the clubs that have some money left, will more likely take somebody much cheaper from the wps.
Comment by vanjory on January 31, 2012 at 15:55 No surprise if she leaves anyway. She can't stay in this unsecured league. I rather she goes to the other semi-pro country clubs to get good games forever.
Comment by Women's Soccer United on January 27, 2012 at 11:37 For the Europeans it might be good to see her playing Champions League football (depending on what team she decides to play for). Who do you think WNY Flash will bring in to replace her?
