Thomas Dennerby has resigned from his role as the Swedish women's national team head coach, his last match as coach will be against the Netherlands on 15 September 2012.
Dennerby has been the head coach for eight years but he now feels that this is his time to end. He has wished his successor the best of luck for the European Championships (in Sweden 2013).
Dennerby has said that the decision to retire was his own and he is not sure what his plans are for the future.
Sweden will be on the look out for a new coach and will want to appoint someone sooner rather than later as we head closer to the European Championships and qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015.
So, who will be Thomas Dennerby's successor, could one of the most successful managers in the world Pia Sundhage be heading home?

@ Lars Breimer ... Lotta Schelins injury was probably worse than what they wanted to admit and affected her playing something .... But Lotta clenched as the fighter she is.
@ Lars Breimer. Sorry I'm a bit late with the reply @ Lars B. .. had some other things to do. Yes "Julgranen" or diamond can was good if it works. But in the case of Sweden, it worked only during 20-25 first minute and then disappeared in the match. This problem I saw in all of Sweden's games during the Olympics. Outer midfielders who came up with a beginning did not come., the central midfielders (attacking) With Caroline Seger mainly poked and messed up the midfield more than they supported Lotta Schelin. So Lotta was isolated in attack., it was easy to read the Swedish game. in Sweden does not change game formation of players on the pitch but the decision is made by the coach. Its a big no.no
@ Lars Breimer .. regarding Caroline Seger, I would give you quite right. There is a player who is incredibly overrated here in Sweden. I have also been on the line that you would have picked her out. But there is further evidence of Thomas Dennerby he does nothing about things when things go wrong. My criticism is directed first and foremost against Dennerby and not really against the individual player ... This was just examples of things he would have thought of ... and that many experts touched on before the Olympics began.
Sweden has since 1973 had only two female coaches. That is why I in favour of a female coach now. Not only for it to be so out gender but I think more communication among women is different from man to woman.
This has been the trend over the years
Thomas Dennerby 2005-2012
Marika Domanski Lyfors 1996-2005
Bengt Simonson 1992-1996
Gunilla Paijkull 1988-1991
Ulf Lyfors 1980-1987
Ulf Bergquist 1979
Tord Grip 1977-1978
Hasse Karlsson 1974-1976
Christer Molander 1973
@ Gromit .... The Olympics were just the latest example of Hedvig Lindahl is too far out there in situations where it seems a bit unnecessary to stand there. This has happened several times in her history as national team goalkeeper. It is a holistic approach to her.
I saw a match between LdB FC Malmö and Kristianstad, where she has done the same thing and was punished immediately by LdB During the las last WM the same thing happened. Had it only been to South Africa it happened, I had not said a thing. But this is repeated again and again, and no action from Thomas Dennerby to highlight to her that it does not do so. That is what I object to in the first place. (Thomas Dennerby Not doing anything)
@ Lars Breimer
Well, I am a little hesitant. Sven Goran has a previous history with not so good attitude to women here in Sweden. I' have a little difficult to see that Swedish Football Association want associated with that name. But as a coach he is good but do not know about women's football. But yes, there is nothing that is impossible in this mode. Sven Goran has gotten a little older and his attitude might have changed, but I want to have a female national team coach. They speak the same language and understand each other in a completely different way than what a man can do

I won't comment what you said - very interesting - since you obviously know much, much, much better than me Swedish Women's Football.
I just want to say that I find you a bit harsh towards Hedvig Lindhal at the Olympics. Right, she is not totally innocent on the S-A's goal but everybody recognized this goal as the best of the tournament. Can she really be guilty for not being on her line when the ball was 50 meters away ?
And, above all, I found her extremely good against Japan and France.
You said that Dennerby was very conservative in its tactical choices as well as for the players called to play. I noticed that it is very usual, unfortunately. The same reproach is made to Bruno Bini for instance but I won't develop since it would be off topic.
@ Crystal Michelle
Most so-called experts in Sweden talking about Pia Sundhage but in my text above it, I mention a few names ... such as Calle Barrling and Martin Sjögren. But the tip of the day is Pia Sundhage. But it is not in the lock, there are options ... but most suggest Pia. Federal People have already commented positively on her name. But it depends on what demands she comes to the Association. So be sure that it will be demand from her side.
After the Olympics had Domanski-Lyfors commissioned by the Swedish football federation to evaluate Womens National Team (Thomas Dennerby). I suspect that she has spoken with Thomas Dennerby the issue and said that it will not be a brilliant evaluation, she will give the Swedish football federation. Of this, Thomas Dennerby concluded that it is better to resign yourself than that the Association will not sign a new contract with him. It should be remembered that Thomas Dennerby was Women national team's head coach for 7 years. Villket is a long time for a Swedish women's team. Now he can Actually saying that he resigned voluntarily. But it all makes sense. He could not think to bring the national team so much more. He was stuck in a small squirrel wheel and could not get out of it. At the end you could guess how, for example, the Swedish Olympic team would look like. With one exception. There was very little of the new venture. Some players who were selected as one here in Sweden put question mark. He found it difficult to break the pattern of a game system did not work during a match. A clear example of this was the match against France in the quarter-finals in the Olympics. It did not work 4-5-1 system worked. He could have gone over to the familiar 4-4-2 system that sits in them Another thing that surely lay him in the dish was his blind faith in goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl. that repeatedly went out of her own tournaments on the pitch. As against South Africa.
Such a goal as South Africa does, by a long shot in goal because Hedwig was a bit too far away from the target. Should not have happened. This was not the first time this happened. He should, and would have put her on the bench then. To show that you can not tolerate that .Nah, now it must be in new, fresh blood among both players and leaders.
If the answer is Pia Sundhage, so be it. She seems very interested in the mission of Swedish coach. But there are other good alternative. Then I think partly coach Calle Barrling who coached the Swedish U-19 national team to a gold medal in the European Championships in Turkey this year. Perhaps Martin Sjögren LdB FC Malmö old coach who was with and helped Calle Barrling to U-19 national team gold in the European Championships in Turkey
Alternative is there .. so just for SvFF to start working.
@ Crystal Michelle House. An interesting proposal you came with ... But I do not think Malin Andersson is licensed for such a task within the Swedish football federation
