Steffi Jones sacked as Germany Women’s head coach.
The German Football Association (DFB) has today announced it has relieved Germany Women’s head coach Steffi Jones of her duties with immediate effect.
The board reached the decision today following a telephone conference and advice from team co-ordinator Oliver Bierhoff and sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou.
Horst Hrubesch will take over on an interim basis for the upcoming games in April against the Czech Republic and Slovenia. He will be assisted by Ulrike Ballweg and Thomas Nörenberg. Horst Hrubesch was previously coach of the men’s U21 led the Olympic team to Silver at the Rio 2016 Games.
Steffi Jones most recently led her side at the 2018 SheBelieves Cup in which Germany finished in fourth place behind France, England and USA.
At the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 Championship, Germany were knocked out by Denmark in the quarter-final stage.
