"The Volvo Winners Cup: Sweden 0-1 Japan: The Nadeshiko Japan won a narrow victory over Sweden's national team. The only goal of the game came from Japan's striker Yuki Nagasato, who currently plays as a forward for 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, the reigning German champions. It seems that Homare Sawa, who has won the 2011 FIFA Ballon d'Or, was not yet in excellent physical condition. In this game, the Swedish team, which has the ace striker Lotta Schelin, seemed to repeatedly miss their opportunities to shoot a goal. I don't think the Nadeshiko Japan were a possession-oriented team in this tournament, the Volvo Winners Cup. Most of their passing was not crisp but sloppy. To make bad things worse, after the game against Sweden, it was found out that Rumi Utugi, who now plays for Montpellier HSC Ladies, had received an MCL injury to her right knee during the game between the USA and Japan. Consequently, Rumi Utsugi will be unable to make the Japanese 2012 Olympic squad."

Comment by Hiroshi Umezu on June 29, 2012 at 14:05 The match between the Nadeshiko and the USWNT was broadcast live on either TV Asahi Network or All-Nippon News Network. In fact, I can't tell the difference between both networks. The press claims that the average television audience rating of Japan's match against the USWNT reached 14.0%. However, I feel that this viewing rating is severely underestimated, for, in Japan, this match was also broadcast live on NHK (Japan's national public broadcasting organization) satellite TV.
For reference, the media reports that the match against the USWNT at the Kirin Challenge Cup was broadcast live on Tokyo Broadcasting System Television on April 1, 2012 and that this broadcast received an average viewer rating of 14.8% in the Kanto area and that the rating reached its peak at 19.5%. Likewise, according to informed sources, the match against Brazil's national team at the Kirin Challenge Cup was shown live on the same TV station on April 5, 2012 and this broadcast got an average viewer rating of 17.5% in this area and the rating reached its peak at 24.5%.
For your information, please be informed that as of June 1, 2010, the total population of the Kanto area was 42,607,375
