Groups confirmed for the 2018 Algarve Cup
The Portuguese Football Association has today announced the teams and groups for the 2018 Algarve Cup, which will run from February 28 to March 7.
In this edition, the competition will have 12 competing teams, divided into groups of four. Hosts, Portugal are included in Group 1, along with Norway, Australia and Korea Republic.
Returning for this edition is Australia Westfield Matildas, one of the emerging powers of women’s football currently ranked sixth position in the FIFA World Ranking of national teams.
Norway, who are ranked 14th in the world have a prestigious international career behind them having won the women’s World Cup in 1995, the gold medal in the 1995 and 2000 Olympic Games, and the European Championships in 1987 and 1993.
The 2018 Algarve Cup will feature the European Champions, the Netherlands, as well as Japan, the World Cup winners in 2011, and Iceland.
