Kenya’s Esse Akida disappointed with performance
Harambee Starlets striker Esse Akida says she is not happy with her performance especially in the second match against Burundi where they won 4-0 in the ongoing Cecafa women tournament on Tuesday evening at Technical Centre, Njeru.
Akida, who came in as a substitute in their final preliminary match in Group A against Zanzibar where they won by a massive 11-0, grabbed a brace to her name said she wanted more to make her dream of becoming the top scorer of the tournament.
Akida emerged the overall top scorer during the fifth edition of COTIF Women Tournament that was played in Valencia, Spain a couple in August where she scored goals hopes to extend the scoring trend to this tournament.
“The match against Burundi was not easy but I am glad we won. I am mad about the performance because I missed goal scoring chances but I know my fans and team mates who are used to me scoring know that if I haven’t scored I have not done anything that thing is bringing me down. I am going to pray my God to maintain my goal scoring,” she said.
Despite scoring two goals in the match against Zanzibar to add her goal tally to five as the current top scorer in the tournament so far, Akida is seeking for redemption as they approach the semi-finals.
“I didn’t play well against Zanzibar but I am hoping for more in the semi-final match,” she said
Akida who features for Kenyan Women Premier League side last season first runners up Mombasa-based side Spedag FC is on form after scoring 13 goals from six matches for her club this season.
