Yesterday we ‘tweeted’ the exciting news that Amy Rodriguez is pregnant and expecting her first child. This means that A-Rod will miss the 2013 NWSL season and USWNT international duty.
USWNT Head Coach Tom Sermanni announced the 29-player training camp roster which included Rodriguez, who has earned 102 caps and 26 goals for the US Women’s National Team.
It has now been announced that Zakiya Bywaters will be the replacement for Amy Rodriguez.
It has been a very exciting month for Zakiya Bywaters, who was the first overall pick in the NWSL College Draft by the Chicago Red Stars. Bywaters was a member of the U-20 US squad but this will be her first training camp with the full USWNT.
If Zakiya performs well in the training camp she has a chance of being selected for the USA’s first match of the year against Scotland.
Wishing Amy Rodriguez and her husband Adam best wishes.
