Australia Westfield Young Matildas U-20s squad for AFF Women’s Championship 2015
Australia Westfield Young Matildas (U20s) have flown out for Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam to compete at the eighth edition of the AFF Women’s Championship, which runs from 1-10 May 2015.
Young Matildas Head Coach Ante Juric named a 22-player squad for the tournament which sees eight countries split into two groups with the winners and second placed teams from each group progressing to the semi finals.
The squad includes capped Westfield Matildas Alex Chidiak, Emma Checker and Amy Harrison, the trio headlining a team that will be hoping to go one better than the Young Matildas’ second place finish in 2013.
Juric will use the AFF Women’s Championship as an important step towards the upcoming AFC U19 Championships in China in August, which serves as the qualifiers for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2016.
The Young Matildas have been grouped alongside Thailand, Indonesia and Laos, while the other group comprises hosts Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia and the Philippines.
The Young Matildas’ first match of the tournament is against Thailand on Friday. Take a look at all the 2015 AFF Women’s Championship fixtures.
