Banyana Banyana reach the Finals in Namibia

South Africa were too good for Comoros beating them 13-0 on Friday in the 9th African Women’s Championship Namibia 2014, second round first leg qualifier in Mistamiouli. Banyana Banyana have sealed qualification following the withdrawal of Comoros from the 2014 African Women’s Championship qualifiers. The second leg scheduled for this weekend.
Forwards Portia Modise and Leandra Smeda both scored four goals each, and Sanah Mollo netted two goals before a goal each from Mamello Makhabane, Nomathemba Ntsibande and Shiwe Nogwanya handed the South Africans one of their biggest wins in the history of women’s football.
Head coach of the Banyana Banyana, Vera Pauw was thrilled with the team’s performance.
“We prepared very well for the match, and I’m happy that the ladies have started finding the back of the net. We did not change the team, but we also gave other players a chance in the second half. We were dominating the game, the was not much competition from the start,” Pauw told the South African Football Association (SAFA) website after the game.
