NUWFC First Team welcomes Derby County Ladies Football Club to Northumbria University Coach Lane this Sunday in the FA Women’s Premier League.
Following on from the FA Women’s League Cup Wear Tyne derby which was a fantastic showcase for Women’s football in the North East, the NUWFC team are now focused on getting back into league action. If the team can reproduce the football they played last Sunday at the Hetton Centre, Sunderland, the supporters can be guaranteed an afternoon of top class football and hopefully three much needed points.
NUWFC First Team Captain Sarah Wilson said “Back in league action this weekend at home to Derby. We’re sitting only 2 place above them in the league at the minute. Even though we are bouncing back from not the best run, Derby shouldn’t write us off too easily. We have lots of positives to take into the game. If we prepare ourselves and start with the same attitude as we did last weekend I have no doubt that we will produce the results in which we deserve.

NUWFC Reserve Team
NUWFC’s Reserve Team are also at home this Sunday at Northumbria University Bullocksteads in the FA Women’s Premier League Reserve Section Mid North Division when they welcome Doncaster Rover Bells Reserves. The two teams have already met this season in the League Cup when Doncaster put five passed an understrength NUWFC team due to illness, work commitments and injuries. NUWFC even had to play their Reserve goalkeeper in an outfield position and finished the game with only nine players. But Gary Appleton NUWFC Reserve Team Manager who will have hopefully recovered from his 50th Birthday celebrations will have a full squad to choose from and is determined that his team will show Rovers just what they can do on the pitch.
NUWFC Reserve Team Captain Gary Appleton said “This week we host Doncaster Belles and hoping to take last week’s performance into this game but look to be more of an attacking threat and with this in mind will be working more closely on build up play in training. A couple of players have yet to recover from injuries and a knee injury to Kayleigh Appleton could see us bring in some new faces to the team so training this week is very important for girls wanting to press for squad selection with the good performance at Leeds last week behind us. We are looking forward to the Doncaster game and look to approach it in a confident and positive manner”
There is a great team spirit within the Reserve squad and every player knows that when the full squad is fit competition for starting places is tight. The team played well on Sunday at Leeds and know that they were unlucky not to come back with a point. So they will be making sure that they prepare and are ready for Sunday’s fixture against Doncaster Rover Belles Reserves.
NUWFC Reserve Team Captain Amy Perch who will hopefully be fit for Sundays fixture said, “We take on Doncaster Belles at home. We know that Donny can field a very good squad but having played them in the Cup already, we will go into the game with confidence, knowing that we can match them in every area of the pitch. The girls will be working hard this week at training to build on the positives from last weekend’s game at Leeds – hopefully the injuries picked up will not be too serious and we will be back to full strength by the time Sunday comes around. We will need everything we’ve got in order to take points from Donny but the girls will be spurred on further in looking to give the ‘gaffa’ some points for his 50th birthday.’
