The 2014 Copa América Femenina reached its conclusion today with Brazil and Colombia securing the two FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 qualifying berths. Ecuador finished third to claim the play-off spot – they will go head-to-head with 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship fourth place finisher.
Colombia finished top of Group A ahead of Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela and Peru. They were unbeaten in the group phase. Brazil were Group B winners in front of Argentina, Paraguay, Chile and Bolivia.
In the final round of the 2014 Copa América Femenina, Colombia were held to a 0-0 draw with Argentina in their opening match whilst Brazil beat Ecuador 4-0. Brazil continued their winning streak with a 6-0 win over Argentina in their second game of the final phase. Colombia earned a 2-1 win over Ecuador to keep their World Cup qualifying dream alive.
In the final day of Copa América Femenina matches, Ecuador came from behind to beat Argentina 3-2! The result secured Ecuador’s place in the play-offs.
Brazil and Colombia had already booked their place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 before the kick-off of their final match against each other.
There were no goals scored in the final match of the 2014 Copa América Femenina between Brazil and Colombia.
