Brazil won the Gold today in the women’s football event beating Germany 5-0 in the Final and completing an unbeaten run.

A good crowd gathered at San Gennaro to watch both the match for third place and the final. Holland and France were playing for the bronze in the earlier fixture of the day. It was France who dominated the game and had two good efforts denied by the post. These missed chances were to prove costly as it was the Netherlands that opened the scoring and were able to increase the lead to 2-0. Despite the pressure from France, Netherlands were able to hold on to their lead and win the bronze.

The Final saw Brazil take on Germany in the battle for Gold. Brazil went into the match unbeaten in this tournament and quickly took control of the game. Brazil opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a goal from Katie Silva and continued to dominate. Silva got her second of the match just a minute later to double the lead. In the second half Daniele Dos Santos converted a penalty in the 73rd minute and 3 minutes before full time Barbara Ferreira made it 4-0. The goals didn’t stop there, in the 90th minute Dos Santos got her second of the game and the Final ended Brazil 5-0 Germany.

For Brazil’s celebration, the athletes were profiled and saluted in honour of the Armed Forces.

If Les Bleues are well focused on the match and not perturbed by all what we were talking somewhere else, I think there will no problem for them. I agree with Sylvain : 3-0 as in Cyprus Cup. The absences in English team seem more important than France’s, even if Renard and Bompastor are key players too, of course.
