Canada Women’s U-20 team has won Group A at the 2018 CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship, going undefeated in all three matches after topping Haiti 4:0 in their final group stage fixture on Monday.

Canada struck early and often with Shana Flynn scoring Canada’s first three goals (5′ 7′ 18′) in the span of 15 minutes. Flynn’s hat-trick was Canada’s second of the tournament as 16-year old Jordyn Huitema also buried three for Canada against Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday.

Canada maintained possession for the majority of the match and created many scoring chances while working the ball around the pitch showing patience and continuing their Canadian attacking style of play seen throughout the group stage.
“This win puts us firmly in the driver’s seat going into the Semi-Final, so we are really happy with the result,” said Bev Priestman, Canada Soccer Women’s U-20 Head Coach and Women’s National EXCEL Director U15-U23 after the match. “Haiti rested some of their players during the match, so we didn’t get the best Haiti team possible, but it gave us an opportunity to work on some of our on-field connections and I am really happy with the way our team handled ourselves.”
Canada made three subs during the match with Caitlin Shaw coming in for Sarah Stratigakis (46′), Tanya Boychuk coming in for Shana Flynn (57′) and Teni Akindoju replacing Jordyn Huitema (67′).
“We now have three days to get ready for the Semi-Final, so we will be focusing on getting the players rested so they are physically and mentally ready for whoever we face,” said Priestman.
Canada will have to wait until Tuesday evening to find out their opponent for the Semi-Final as Mexico and USA (Watch the USA v Mexico live match broadcast) face off to determine the final rankings in Group B. As winners of Group A, Canada will play the runner-up of Group B on Friday, 26 January at 19:00 local (18:00 ET/15:00 PT).
Canada has advanced to the Semi-Final in every CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship since it’s inception in 2004, with an exception of 2014 when Canada automatically qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup as hosts. Canada has won the CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship twice before in 2004 and 2008, placed second in 2006, 2012, and 2016; and, placed third in 2010. Canada has qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in every edition.
