A drama filled game that ended with a extra-time time winner by Alex Morgan delivering a devastating blow to the Canadians who had led the match three times thanks to captain Christine Sinclair. Watch video highlights of the iconic semi-final battle here.
The drama continued after the final whistle as emotions ran high, Christine Sinclair was later given a four match suspension by FIFA for comments made after the game.
USA went on to win the Gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics whilst Canada bounced back and won the Bronze medal.
This year’s International friendly match is scheduled to take place on 2nd June at 16:30 (local time) at BMO Field in Toronto. The match is scheduled to be broadcast live nationally across the Sportsnet channels.
It will give the Canadians a chance for ‘revenge’ when they meet USA on their home soil, they may even have the chance to end the USWNT’s current unbeaten run.
