Cardiff to host the 2017 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final
UEFA has today confirmed that the Football Association of Wales has been successful in its bid for Cardiff to host the 2017 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final will be played at the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday, 1st June 2017
Jonathan Ford, Chief Executive of the FAW added: “Staging major football finals is one of the objectives contained within the FAW’s Strategic Plan – we believe that staging both the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final and 2017 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final will have a positive and long-lasting effect on Welsh football.
“Today’s announcement is the culmination of two years’ of hard work and I’d like to thank all those who’ve helped the FAW fulfil its ambition of staging a UEFA Champions League Final.”
Wales’ Women’s National Team Manager and former UEFA Women’s Champions League winner, Jayne Ludlow spoke of her delight at the announcement: “It is fantastic news that Wales will be staging the pinnacle event for European women’s club football. The UEFA Women’s Champions League is arguably the strongest competition for top level female players in the world.
“Having played in the competition with Arsenal and having had the honour of lifting the trophy in 2007, it will be great to welcome the world’s best female footballers to Wales in 2017.”
