Houston Dash Midfielder Carli Lloyd Voted NWSL Player of the Month
Houston Dash midfielder Carli Lloyd was voted the National Women’s Soccer League Player of the Month by the media for the month of July of the 2015 NWSL season.
Lloyd, 33, helped Houston earn a 2-0-1 record in July to move into the number four spot in the standings with a 5-5-5 (20 pts.) overall record going into Week 17 of the campaign. The Dash are one point ahead of FC Kansas City, who continue to battle for the last spot in the NWSL playoffs.
The Delran, N.J native registered three goals in the month, continuing her hot streak from the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Lloyd’s first goal came at the end of the first half on the road against FC Kansas City, in a match that would end in a 1-1 draw.
The Rutgers University alum recorded her second goal of July during Week 15 against her former team, the Western New York Flash as she connected on a pass from teammate Meghan Klingenberg and scored the only goal of the game to help the Dash earn three points on the road.
On July 29, Lloyd scored her third goal of the month in an exciting 3-2 win over FC Kansas City, as she found the back of the net late in the game with a ball from teammate Niki Cross.
She is receiving the award for the first time and is also the first player for the Houston Dash to be named National Women’s Soccer League Player of the Month. The Houston Dash will return to action Friday, August 7 at 8:30 p.m. ET against Sky Blue FC at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The National Women’s Soccer League Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
