Caroline Weir extends Manchester City contract

Caroline Weir has extended her contract at Manchester City until 2022.

The Scotland International put pen to paper on Friday and commented “I’m delighted to have signed a new contract,” she said. “I’ve had a really enjoyable first 18 months and I’m really pleased to have extended my stay here. “It was definitely an easy decision. I would like to think I’ve improved a lot. It’s a great Club and it really tests you, taking you out of your comfort zone.

“There’s a pressure to improve and a lot of expectation to win every game and win trophies, which has improved my mindset. It’s a big week – a tough week,” she added. “These are the games you want to play in and you want to be in these positions.

“Sunday is a huge game in the league title race and we’re all looking forward to it. We’re excited. We know what’s at stake but we’re confident we can put things right and play well to hopefully get the three points we need.

“Personally, I feel there’s more to come from me. I’m hitting a good age now – I’m fairly experienced and I’m building on that. I want to help the team in whatever way on and off the pitch, continuing to develop. That’s my main aim.

The 24-year-old has been with the club, who won both domestic cups last season, since leaving Liverpool in 2018.

Weir has scored 15 goals in her 53 City appearances so far including the winner in the first ever Women’s Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium back in September.
