Christine Endler

Chelsea Ladies are delighted to announce the signing of Chile international goalkeeper Christiane Endler.

The 22-year-old becomes manager Emma Hayes’ eighth signing of the off-season and will provide competition for Marie Hourihan during the FA Women’s Super League campaign which kicks off later this month.

The three-time Chilean footballer of the year moves from the USA where she has been playing for the University of South Florida Bulls in the American Athletic Conference.

Prior to her move to Florida, the South American enjoyed plenty of success in her native Chile, including winning the Copa Libertadores title with Colo Colo in 2012.

‘I am very happy to be joining Chelsea,’ said Endler, who was born in Chile but has dual nationality through her German father.

‘I am looking forward to playing in England, meeting the team, and helping the team achieve our goals this season.

‘For me it is important to adapt well to the team and style of play in England and to give my best for the team and for the Chelsea fans.’

Chelsea Ladies will begin their season with an FA Cup tie on Sunday 13 April at home to Bristol Academy, before facing the same opposition away from home in their opening FA WSL fixture on Thursday 17 April, with our first home game against defending champions Liverpool three days later.

Endler will not be part of the squad for the opening few games having agreed to join the Blues in May and Hayes is looking forward to seeing her link up with the squad.

‘Christiane Endler is one of the top young goalkeepers in international football and it’s a real coup for us to get her here at Chelsea,’ said the Chelsea manager.

‘She has a commanding presence and her all-round game is exceptional. She will provide competition with Marie and is the final piece in our group for this season.’

Endler is known to some Japanese as a GK who saved a PK by Aya Miyama, which means she achieved something Solo, Kaihori or Angerer never managed yet (to my knowledge.) It almost looks Chelsea is unbeatable before the season begins.

Agree with you, on paper this has to be Chelsea’s season. The squad they have built is very impressive, the only doubt is if they have enough time to get to know each other and play well as a team. Endler is unable to join the squad until May.

I am so excited about this recruitment. Many people on WSU have been saying for years about the quality of Endler – With the coverage of the WSL, Endler will be able to showcase her talent to a whole new audience.
