Chelsea ready for Málaga’s crunch match at rivals Sevilla!
Hi everybody, nice to be here again!
A HUGE match coming up for Málaga CF this week in our battle to stay in Spain’s top flight, La Liga Iberdrola. We’re currently joint-bottom of the 16-team table (two teams are relegated), level on 17 points with Madrid CFF and EDF Logroño, and on Wednesday 13th March we travel to face Andaluz rivals Sevilla – currently just two points ahead of us.
Including the Sevilla match, three of our next four games are against teams near the bottom of the table – and they’re are only eight matches left this season – so it’s a vital period in the survival race!
Thanks to the international break it’s been a bit quieter around the club these past couple of weeks. With no match since 24th February’s narrow 1-0 defeat at UD Granadilla Tenerife, the club organised a friendly game versus the Russian national team on 1st March. Though it ended 0-0, it was good to see my goalkeeping colleague Alba Hoyas get some game time and the team played really well – plenty of positives to take into the derby against Sevilla!
Going back to where I left off in my last post, we had a great 2012/13 season at Sporting Huelva under coach Antonio Toledo and, to cap it off, we were all invited to the wedding of Antonio and the club’s amazing president Manuela Romero Landa – a lovely way to finish off the season!
Manuela told me that another club had been in touch and wanted to make me an offer, while Sporting were going to make me an offer too, so I should go back to Granada, enjoy my summer holidays, and think about my next move. But the next thing I knew, I got a call from Antonio to say another team had got in touch to ask about me – but he didn’t say who it was! So, imagine my surprise when a couple of days later I got a call from FC Barcelona – who’d just won the league title for the second year in a row!
Barça made me a very good offer, I discussed it with my family and we agreed it was the best move for my career, so I called Antonio and Manuela at Sporting to tell them my decision. They said they were very happy for me – in fact I’ve still got a great relationship with them to this day – and so on 25th July 2013 it was time for me to set off on my next new adventure, to join Barcelona!
Join me next time to hear all about my time with the Catalan giants, plus all the latest on Málaga’s battle against the drop!
